Is exposure index the same as asa in film photography?

It is not the same thing as asa or iso any type of photography. Also known as EV (exposure value) or LV (light value), it is a numerical representation of the amount of light reaching the film. Shutter speed and aperture are the main inputs into the mathematical equation used to arrive at the value. Most photographers need not be concerned with EV, but if needed, would rely on an EV table or light meter scale rather than do the math. At F1 and 1 second, the EV is 0. Each halving of the exposure increments the value by +1; each doubling of the exposure by -1. Thus 1 second at F2 is EV 2 (don't forget that this is TWO stops as F1.4 comes between F1 and F2).

Can police recover deleted pictures or videos from a digital camera when it has been taken as evidence?

I don't know how likely it is for police to be looking through your digital camera. It's never happened to me. :) But as a rule, the files that are written to the memory chip on your camera, laptop, computer, USB drive can all be successfully recovered to a certain extent, depending on whether the deleted file has been overwritten with new information or not.

You can use a program to wipe your memory chip, or any other drive. I've used R-wipe & Clean, and PGP. What wiping does is write over your deleted file with random information so that it cannot be retrieved.

How do you open and or repair a 8mm video cassette tape?

Usually the best way to fix a misbehaving cassette is by buying a new one and use the housing of it, replacing the two rolls of tape.

The cassette itself is held together by five very small Philips screws accessible on the bottom side (a very small flat screwdriver can also wok though) You have to remove the sticky title strip from the edge as well, if you had one. When the screws are removed turn the box right side up and lift off the top. pay attention of the locking arm for tape cover mechanism. it has some sort of spring, that easily falls off. Carefully change the pair of rolls with your originals. Leave some extra tape loose. it can be tighten up when the rolls are in place by turning the rolls against the ratchet in the middle. When replacing the cover hold the back portion of the tape cover off by holding the counter piece on the top. Usually it has an arrow molded into it.

Frequently, some mechanical tightness can be sold simply slightly loosening the screws that hold the box together.

How to use a 35 mm lens in a 16 mm camera?

You need to buy an adaptor. Make sure you specify exactly the type of lens and exactly the camera you want to attach it to. Don't forget that there will be a large increase in magnification, i.e. your 35mm lens will give more telephoto effect on a 16mm camera. It is unlikely that the automatic functions (aperture, focus) of the lens will be carried into the 16mm camera.

EI is the exposure index. (Also known as EV: Exposure Value)

It is a number gained from a formula combining the values of the aperture width and shutter speed to calculate the amount of light reaching the film/sensor.

Are 0.8mp for a video camera good enough?

Yes 0.8MegaPixels are fine for a video camera It's maximum resolution is 1024×768 whereas a modern 3MP HD camera is 1920x1080. Many well known manufacturers produced 0.8MP cameras usually recording onto a MiniDV tape. Video capture is a different process to still capture so there is a considerable lag between the MP count for video and still cameras. But don't be fooled by the megapixel myth. (See links below)
