I have searched this question on Google, and everyone I look at, a majority of them say yes- Lucas Candy has lead in it, and is bad for you. I am not sure this is true, but on one website, it said that it DOES have lead in it, and it can lead to causing cause kidney problems, but I am not totally sure this is true. I have tried the powdered Lucas Candy, and I loved it, I even got 2 bottles from my friends. I ate both of them in one day. They leave a hot feeling in your throat, but a sweet aftertaste for me, but it may be vice-versa for other people. I then looked up in Google, just to be safe: "Is Lucas Candy poisonous?", and I soon saw the answer of it. "It is rumored that Lucas Candy does have lead in it. Lucas Candy is Mexican candy: a hot, spicy, chili taste to it; so they might whack the candy up to make it taste good, but be a bad candy to eat for health reasons." When I first saw this, I was astonished. I ate two powdered Lucas Candy's my friends gave me! I now regret this, because I don't want to take a risk, even if it is a rumor that there is lead in it. I will never eat that rumored "poisonous" candy again. I don't want my tongue colored by the candy, and I do not want health problems. If you are talking about the product that is basically a big chocolate bar and can be melted and used in making candy, then the answer is yes. Unless, it smells bad there is nothing wrong with it. Chocolate does not go bad if kept at moderate temperatures. Even if it develops a "bloom", and looks gray all over it does not hurt the taste or usability of the product. I think the manufacturers put those expiration dates on the packages to protect themselves in case of a lawsuit.
