When was pontefract castle first built?

hi! I live very close to pontefract castle, and me and my class are doing a project on it at the moment, heres what I know...

The site first started out as a mostly Roman inhabited area, around 1900 years ago, however, around the Anglo saxon period, the grounds were used as a large cementy. Pontefract castle itself however, was very first built around 900 years ago by the Normans as a typical motte and bailey castle, the castle was all built by a knight called Ilbert de Lacy. This was in 1086, so in answer to your question, Pontefract castle was first built in 1086, and was also completed later in stone in 1244, first in yellow limestone, and then in grey limestone. (by this time the castle belonged to the king)

I hope this answers your question! :D
