How do you restore leather sofa scratches and cracks?

Prevent further damage by using a good quality leather cleaner, followed by conditioner.

Horse supply stores that carry leather care products are a good place to begin, particularly non wax products. Saddles are a premium item, and care of these has produced some very high quality help that is available retail.

Why does your cat constantly scratch at the front door while meowing loudly?

Most cats don't like to be kept indoors, so she's wanting outside to do her think! Because your cat goes outside it doesn't mean she's looking for a tom cat, or a tom cat is looking for a female. My cat Molly loves to go outside just around our gardens and sit in amongst the ferns and loves it when I go out and garden and will watch me for hours. She does have her 'friends' come around every so often. LOL

Why does your kitten suckle on a raggedy bit of an old cushion?

The kitten could think its their mother. Is the kittens mother still with it? If not, the kitten might think for some reason that it is suckling on its mother.

Do cats have to have a litter?

No, they do not. This is a very old myth that cats and dogs must have one litter before being spayed. Having a litter is incredibly stressful for the mother cat, and can also be incredibly risky. Many first-time mothers are not great parents, and there is a very real chance of complications with the birth or the mother cat rejecting the kittens altogether. There have also been accounts of the mother cat's personality changing due to having a litter.

There are also risks in catching diseases of unknown Tom cats. Cats can transmit disease through fighting or mating, who will then pass it on to the kittens.

It would be much kinder for the cat to be spayed before she reaches sexual maturity (before 6 months old).

Can cailco cats only be female?

Now that a calico cat has been defined as a cat with three colors, the question is: why are they nearly always female? The answer is in genetics. Coat color in cats is a sex-linked trait, a physical characteristic (coat color) related to gender. Female animals have two X chromosomes (XX), males have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome (XY). The genetic coding for displaying black or orange color is found on the X chromosome. The coding for white is a completely separate gene.

Since females have two X chromosomes, they are able to "display" two colors (orange and black, or variations thereof) and white; creating the 3-color calico mix. Since males have only one X chromosome, they can only be orange OR black. It is more complicated than simply having the color genes -- it is a complex process of dominant and non-dominate genes interacting on the X chromosomes, but that is the basis for coat color in calico cats. For those of you interested in the detailed coat color genetics, please see the "Related Reading" articles at the bottom of this FAQ.

Can a calico cat ever be male? Yes, in rare instances. In this situation, the cat has two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome (XXY). Cats with this chromosomal configuration are usually sterile (not able to breed). This is similar to a condition in humans called Klinefelter's syndrome, or XXY Syndrome.

What should you do if you are in a relationship but you also like another boy who treats you better than your boyfriend?

If you really care about your boyfriend and you know he really cares about you, than you shouldn't let another boy come into the picture. If you and your boyfriend are really serious about eachother, then tell him that what he's doing or not doing is emotionally affectiong your relationship. If he really cares about you, then he'll try hard to fix the dent in your relationship( but remember, no one is perfect). After doing alot of ''soulsearching'' and you come to the conclusion that maybe you and your boyfriend shouldn't be together, then call the relationship quits and see what's going on with the other boy you like( but be careful and make sure you're ending the relationship for a good reason, because if the other boy isn't the one, then you made a mistake by breaking up with your boyfriend.) Or maybe your boyfriend or the other boy wasn't meant for you. Then you know that you need to move on!! There's someone made for everyone, so don't get discourage. Love is right around the corner for you!!!!!!! Trust me, I know these things...

Can you stop cats from bringing worms and slugs in?

If you let your cat out, you can get a cream from the pet store or maybe a local store that would kill the bugs on it or repell them. Other than that, you should see if your vet may have anything else to help the cat from bringing worms and slugs or any other type of bug into your home.

Yes. At birth, each kitten is within its own amniotic sac, which the mother cat licks off the kitten to allow it to breathe.

Why is my 10 week old female kitten going to the bathroom on the floor instead of her litter box?

She might-need more training, have trouble aiming, be distressed, be scared of the surroundings of her litter box (like if it's next to something noisy or something like that)....There are a lot of possibilities, a lot of times people just have to look at it from the cat's point of view.
