No they do not. All chemicals smell much more harsh and stronger to them, and it is not good for them to be around the strong smells. It can hurt their noses too. If they would ever consume a chemical like this, you'd need to take them to a vet immediately. However, you shouldn't let your cat eat string, or even play with string, due to health risks associated with cats eating string. String can easily get caught around or block up part of the cat's digestive system which, in some cases, can be fatal. 2. They are affected by reverse psychology, (whatever they can't do, they want to do.)
no taking your cat to the vet is unesscary unless your 80% sure there ill it will cost money usually so there isn't much point in wasting your time unless your sure.
If your cat is ill it usually willl go to a quiet place maybe rest on a bed or a chair it will have lost its appetite and wont be eating it wont want to leave the house usually. Try searching your cat for any bites or wounds etc most male cats fight and it may have been injured by another cat, if its female it could also be pregnant. A very easy way to tell if its ill is if your cat goes into your garden and starts eating plants/grass a tell tale sign of illness because this will stop nausea

What do you do if your cat has scabs around his eyes and ears?
The cat most likely has fleas and ear mites which causes scratching. Because cats have sharp nails, they tear their skin from scratching. Healing wounds and scratches form scars.
You can either take the cat to the vet or do a simple "test" at home.
To do the "test", buy a flea comb. Put your cat on a white sheet on the floor. Comb your cat, looking at the comb as you slowly drag it through and out of the fur. If a flea is on the comb, press your thumb nail against the flea until you feel and hear a "pop" sound. You will notice a slight amount of blood, because fleas drink blood from the host and when you hear the "pop" sound you have broken the flea's body. If you do not see any fleas, the final part of the test is to set the cat to the side and look for small bits of black "dirt". This "dirt" is actually flea excrement (poop) which the fleas leave all over your cat and which drops all over your house. Flea excrement contains microscopic flea eggs which hatch, jump to a warm host, and begin the life cycle all over again.
Because cats use their mouths and teeth to bite itchy places on their skin, they ingest some of the flea excrement that contains eggs. In the intestines, these eggs hatch and become worms.
Additionally, cats with fleas almost certainly have ear mites. Use a flashlight and look down into the cat's ears until you see the area with folds. The entire ear canal should be a healthy pink. If you see black "crud", that is mite excrement. Mites are microscopic and live in that crud. You will need mite medication to kill the mites. A vet will do the first application and show you how to do it.
So, your pet will need a flea application, mite medication, and de-worming med. If you do not know what to buy, you can ask at your local pet shop or ask a vet. Most flea applications, like Frontline (available online) will last 1 to 3 months if the cat is strictly an indoor cat. Now, products like Frontline prevent ear mites. Shops also sell mite medications.
But the best, first course of action is to take your cat to a vet to verify that the cat has fleas and mites (most vets assume if the cat has fleas, the cat WILL have worms too).
You will need to buy house flea treatments and remove your cat or other animals, children, and adults from the house for many hours. Set off the flea "bombs" and exit the house with all doors and windows closed. If the house is infested, you may need to re-bomb another time, several weeks later when the next eggs hatch into babies and look for a warm host.
