Cephalopods

Cephalopods are things like the octopus and squid. They are invertebrates and carnivores. Some have suction cups and some have ink sacs. They do not have an outer shell.

I don't think cuttlebones are "recommended" for dogs. However, it is just the bone part of the cuttle fish and is composed of aragonite (i.e calcium carbonate), which is the same composition as egg shells!

So the cuttlebones are not "toxic" to dogs; however, they can pose a choking risk if your dog gulps them down without chewing them up properly (i.e they may get stuck in the oesophagus or stomach and cause a foreign body, which may be quite expensive to fix!). Having said this, MOST dog foods have this risk associated with them (cooked and uncooked bones can BOTH lodge in the digestive tract!).

So I'd stay away from them if possible... but I'm sure the odd one or two won't hurt! :)

No, the octopus does not have any measurable iodine, maybe some trace minerals, but it is not the ink.

Patio umbrellas can be purchased at home centers and mass retailer and specialty shops. The color will vary in shades and by retailer. It is hard to say exactly who will have one in stock and when. The best thing to do is visit you home center and try to buy one early when the stock is high.

yes there are cuttlefish in the bahamas --i witnessed 2 mating last week on my trip there right behind the freeport police station where they rent snorkles and jet skis and other things near the casino--they were laying thier eggs along the anchor chain to the swim bouy just down the beech from the rental place maybe 100 yards--in 7or 8 foot of water

The pluralization of octopus as "octopi" is in fact, in its Latinate form, incorrect, as this would require it to be a second declension Latin word. Since its classification in Latin form is third declension, according to classical Latin grammar rules, the plural of octopus should be octopodes.

In any case, the more commonly used plural of octopus is "octopuses" - which classicists regard as an incorrect oversimplification.

Besides this, the plural of platypus cannot be universally agreed upon either - "platypuses", "platypus", and "platypi", as well as the grammatically correct plural "platypodes", are used with varying levels of popularity.

I don't know for certain if squid can eat octopus..but, it is known and documented that some species of octopus prey and feed on other octopus...so it would seem that large octopus would probably eat smaller squid and large squid would probably eat small octopus ( if they are caught and available) in the area they are hunting in.

About two years ago, a Japanese scientist and film maker recorded a giant squid with a tentacle caught on their hook that I believe had fish bait? It could have been octopus bait? whatever it was, it was FREE FOOD for the squid ( which dropped the tentacle to get free of the hook).

*A rule of thumb," Most animal consumers will hunt and prey on animal food that is easily caught. They tend to hunt prey they do not have to fight hard with since there are a 'lot of fish in the sea'." (smile)
