Most of the sources I can find suggest using Cheddar if you can't find anything else. I've been trying to find an answer to this question myself, because I want to make Glamorgan sausages.

The distinctive characteristics of Caerphilly cheese (which I admit I've never had the chance to try) seem to be that (1) it's on the dry side and has a crumbly texture, and (2) it's slightly tangy. Monterey Jack cheese is tangy, but not crumbly. Mexican farmer's cheese is crumbly, but not (at least IMHO) especially tangy. I plan to try a mixture of sharp white Cheddar and finely chopped Monterey Jack, and hope it turns out all right. Hope this helps!

Well, most cheeses are made of milk but there are artificially produced cheeses that don't contain any milk.

It depends on if you are sensitive to them or not. Being lactose intolerant, I have learned what my "dairy limit" is. If I drink a glass of milk, have a bowl of ice cream, or eat something covered in cheese, there will be some painful, embarrassing problems in about four hours. However, I am able to tolerate low amounts of lactose, such as small amounts of chocolate or a cookie. The amounts of lactose that each LI person can tolerate, however, will vary with the severity of their intolerance. People allergic to dairy products will experience symptoms similar to an allergic reaction to a bee sting or dog hair- their throat will close up, or grow hives. However, if you are perfectly fine digesting dairy products, then drink/eat away! Too much dairy never hurt anyone (at least anyone with tolerance).

Well, since both macaroni and dairy are complex carbohydrates, it may be fine to eat if you follow it up with moderate to vigorous exercise.

But if you just sit around after eating it, you're body will change the carbohydrates into fats for storage.

And, the cheese is a source of cholesterol. You don't want to clog your arteries with LDL (Bad cholesterol).

Long story short? All things in moderation. If you are a hardcore mac 'n cheese fan, trying eating it once a week to avoid excessive weight gain.

I think it is called manicotti. I am not sure about the spelling though. canneloni Its both. Manicotti and canneloni are the same dish. Both are hard and time consuming to stuff, I would suggest buying large shells in your pasta section of the store. Follow the instructions on the box for "stuffed shells"

First off, what is a "cheese" slice in the US? McDonald's claims to use real American cheese, and in most stores you buy real cheese blend American cheese blended with cheddar and Colby. There is many different processed cheese slices, and most marketed as "cheese" these are created with ingredients like whey and soy, salt, milk and so on. I basically buy the processed stuff and use it on sandwich's and melt it on veggies. I like it, "real cheese" is kind of salty and a bit much.

I believe that the cheese on my double cheese burger at McDonald's is processed cheese product slices. I think this as a person who likes processed over "real cheese"

does it matter? because many food joints serve it and call it cheese, and people buy it thinking it is cheese. at this point in US culture the processed stuff is what we call cheese and "real" cheese is strange to most of us.

As many people are allergic to animal rennet, if used in a product it should indicate this on the label. If it does not it is probably safe to eat, but if in doubt at all, don't eat it. Rennet is mainly found in cheese and cheese products.

It depends on the type of cheese. Soft cheeses (such as Brie) get softer as they get older, until they dry up and go crusty (when they are way past their edible stage). Harder cheeses just get dry.

I would not expect so. To be halal, a food must be prepared under fairly strict guidelines, and adhering to those guidelines can cost a little extra money. It is unlikely that something marketed by No Frills under the No Name brand would have spent any money on being prepared according to halal guidelines.
