I would love to know this myself because mine needs replacement and nobody online has any idea where this component is on a 2.2 engine. You would think it would be in or near the thermostat housing but it is not, and apparently not in any other visible location in the cooling system. I have traced out the entire system and no sign of it yet. Any help would be appreciated.
The temp. gauge is jumping from cold to warm to hot and bottoming out to cold again on a 1999 Cavalier. Everybody says it's the temp. sending unit (NOT to be confused with the temp. sensor (which is on the coolant bypass line on the right front of the engine near the alternator, if anyone is looking for that one) but nobody can tell me where to find this component to be able to replace it. It is very frustrating to try to replace a part that does not seem to exist.
