I started babysitting a 6 month old baby when I was 13, but I was under supervision for the first 3 months. Then six months later I was watching two infants at a time every now and then because the mother of the baby I was watching told other parents how good I was watching her baby.

So, a 13 year old can babysit, but I suggest starting off with babysitting one child at a time with supervision until an adult feels comfortable leaving the 13 year old unsupervised. They must be disciplined, responsible, and mature enough to be able to care for another child especially infants and toddlers.

You would have to look at the rules for your state, for most states it is legally 14. You can still babysit at twelve though if you are comfortable with it and mature enough.

most jobs you to be 13 years or older to get a job just for the summer

depends on how much experience he has ...when i was his age i started at 5 dollars an hour...but he can prolly get 6 bucks if he keeps his head up straight. Seeing as I was twelve two years ago I wouldn't say that you can charge very much. Twelve year olds really aren't that responsible and connot be very experienced in babysitting. I would say the most you could charge is $5.50 an hour you should start lower, at about $4.25, and gradually increase. Twelve years olds won't be trusted as much a fourteen or fifteen yearolds so many people would rather pay more for teens with more experience. I started out babysitting for my 3 younger brothers when I was about 10 or 11 years old and worked my waty to my cousins when I was 12. I think it depends how trust-worthy you can be. For example, if you are the youngest in your family or you are an only child at 12 years old, I think you might be a little un-trust-worthy because you don't have any experience. If you are the oldest and have younger siblings, I think you are pretty trust-worthy. Here is my answer to how much you should charge- Have younger siblings/ you are the oldest- $5.00 an hour + $2.00 ( if you are cooking)= $7.00 per hour Only child/ youngest- $4.00 an hour = $2.00 ( if you are cooking)= $7.00 per hour The response before is completely incorrect. It depends on experience, not age!

To get started in babysitting try the following: 1. Check your community learning centers and see if they have an Introductory Babysitting Certification course. Often an inexpensive investment ( maybe $20 dollars ) they can teach you , how to handle emergencies, "tricks" to entertain and control young kids, and give you the confidence to start babysitting! A certificate in First Aid is also a good idea, it will show future clients that you are serious about babysitting, and a prepared to take care of clients children. 2. If you have younger siblings and you often look after them when your parents are out, you already have experience in babysitting. Use this as an example when offering to babysit for others. 3. Offer to babysit for family like Aunts and Uncles, etc. Give them a free night and then if they like what you can do, start charging for cash!! 4. Once you have some experience, make sure your neighbours know that you are starting to babysit. Once you can babysit for neighbours, word of mouth will definitely work to your advantage, as you can get good recomendations from previous customers. Hopefully this will get you started!!! No. A ten year old is not yet mature enough to accept sole responsibility for a child and does not yet have the capacity to understand the consequences of his/her actions.Unless they have good parents that taught them well and are extremely responsible (which is very rare).

I am an experienced babysitter, and when you babysit there are TONS of things to do!

It depends on how old the children are for infants to 3 year olds the most you can do is play music and dance with the child, read books, make snacks, watch movies, play with dolls or cars (make sure any toy you play with is soft and wouldn't hurt the infant of child), or you can also roll a ball back and forth!

For 4-7 year olds they are more about talking and walking and running!! so you would need to be on your toes with this age range. What you could do is...Play with toys, go outside, read books, watch movies, swim is a small pool (don't forget sunscreen!), and you could ask the child too! See what they love to do in their spare time!

8-10 year olds (with is as high as Igo in age when i babysit), are a different story. For them you need to warm up to them. They may not be as playful then the younger kids! Sometimes they just like to go off and play by themselves, but if they do this you have to check back on them regularly so the stay out of trouble, as well as asking if they would mind if you could play too!

Nobody ever told me boys can't babysit. It's just that girls have the maternal instinct in them to take care of children since they'll have one of their own someday. Just show that you're able to take care of children, have good first aid skills, and are reliable. Besides, you're only 13. Why do you need a job? Enjoy being a kid and don't grow up TOO fast. Servers can make a great deal of money. True the check is minimal or non-existant. Sometimes the taxes servers pay on their tips is more then they make on their check. I once worked as a server in an upscale restaurant. I never left with less than $300 per night in tips. One night I left with over $1200. Thanks Tiger Woods!

The above is NOT the norm. I've been working at upscale restaurants in BIG cities (Chicago, Atlanta) for over 10 years. The above is correct that you make less than minimum wage hourly, but DO NOT expect to make between $300 - 1200 nightly in tips. More likely, you will make between $75 - 200 per night (at most restaurants, $200 is a real good night). I'm also forced to wonder, if you are asking this question, if you have ever worked at a restaurant before. If the answer is no, you'll most likely make even less. True, there are restaurants in Vegas, Chicago, NYC, and LA where you can pull in that much money, but trust me, they won't hire you if its you're first FOH job unless you are also a model. It just depends on the state in which you live here in Washington state waitresses make minimum plus tips which can level out to about 15.00 an hour of course depending on your experience.

I think that this all depends on maturity. If you are twelve, you should be able to look after at least 3 children but you should never babysit more than 5 kids unless you are old enough to. Then again, if the family trusts you with 5 kids because they know you are practical, responsible and caring, you should be okay. Be sure to check with your arents before you babysit anyone, though!!

I would be concerned with a 10-year-old being left in charge of younger kids. They have limited ability to control others and don't have the experience to cover emergencies.

You should not have a 10 year old baby sitting, as they are still not responsible enough to look after children that are younger than them, especially babies. You have to be 14 years of age to babysit! :)

Some schools provide good info and some important rules for child care and babysitting. If your school dosent provide a course or class you may be able to find a place at a clinic.

In most states it depends on the job. Generally, until you are 18 there are some limits on how many hours you can work a week and within the same day (particularly during the school year). If you are between the ages of 14-16 it gets more complicated, fewer hours and more hoops through which to jump. For instance you generally have to get signed permission from you school if you are under 16. Many employers won't bother hiring you if you are under 16, it isn't worth the hassle. There are some possibilities - such as babysitting, yard work for neighbors, etc., but a lot depends on your interests and how you present yourself. Also, as long as you are under-age, your parents have a fair amount of say in whether you are allowed to work. I don't know Michigan law specifically, but I have worked with minors in a number of states, generally if you are under 16, it is a lot of hassle except for jobs for neighbors and the like. Once you are 16, things get much easier, although you are still restricted as far as the number of hours and WHICH hours (like few fast food restaurants close early enough to have a 16 year old do closing - it would be against the law as it is is too late.) I am not a lawyer. Nor do I portray one here or on TV. Someone as young as 11 can get a job in Michigan. They have to obtain a work permit from their school. The total number of hours is restricted to a total of 48 hours of school and work a week.
