In North America, a chiropractic visit can cost $25 - $100, dependent on the variables described above. The cost can be even higher if x-rays are required.
In Bristol, a fully qualified member of the British Chiropractic Association cost £38 for treatment.
What is the definition of good posture?
There are two main principles for getting good posture. 1. Practice correct posture in everyday activities: standing, sitting, laying, bending and walking. 2. A balanced exercise program that strengthens both antagonist and protagonist muscles. For example, if you do sit-ups to strengthen your stomach muscles you must do equal conditioning of the lower back (antagonist muscles). If you do not do this your body will become out of balance and you will develop poor posture. The fundamentals of good posture are a "straight" back and keeping your center of gravity over the load bearing joints, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. For in depth information refer to "8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back" by Esther Gokhale, L.Ac. and "The Pain-Free Program" by Carey, Anthony M.A., C.S.C.S.. Both are excellent sources that teach how to develop good posture.
Can someone have 6 lumbar vertebrae?
Yes. This is due to a normal variant in the development of the spine called lumbarization. This occurs when the first segment of the sacral spine (which is just below L5 and normally referred to as S1) fails to fuse with the sacrum, resulting in what appears to be a 6th lumbar vertebra, an L6.
The result of this 6th lumbar vertebra is merely an extra movable segment in the spine and is generally not considered an abnormality or anything that needs to be treated.

How many hours does a chiropractors work?
Osteopathic physicians (DOs) generally work between 60 and 80 hours a week during residency (the period of time immediately after finishing medical school). After this, it depends on the specialty the physician practices and whether "full time" or "part time." Some specialties, such Family medicine, pediatrics, Internal medicine may work only Monday through Friday 8a-5p if they only work in the office and do not have to round in the hospital or take call. Some may work almost every day for 12 or more hours a day. Some physicians are on call and work for a week straight and then take several days off. It really depends on the person's field and practice environment.
You will find this is true of all physicians, not only of Osteopathic physicians.
Were do chiropractors have to work?
Interesting question... Chiropractors can work pretty much anywhere. They may have a home office, they may make house calls, they may have a completely separate office. Sometimes chiropractors will work with other health professionals. This is of course a personal choice as chiropractors have a different philosophy on how the body works from what mainstream medicine believes to be true. To answer your question chiropractors can practice almost anywhere depending on some residential zoning restrictions.
What do chiropractic doctors actually do?
Chiropractic is a specialized health care profession that focuses on the neuromusculoskeletal system. In other words, chiropractic is used to treat conditions that affect the nervous system and the muscular system by "adjusting" the skeletal system. Although chiropractors "adjust" the synovial joints between bones, the effects of chiropractic are currently believed by scientists to result from the stimulation of muscle receptors that connect the same two bones as the synovial joint that is being "adjusted". The theory behind this stems from the knowledge that the nervous system either controls, or at least has an influence on, most other systems in the body. Further, it is known that the nervous system can be influenced by changes to the musculoskeletal system. Ultimately, chiropractic theory suggests that by keeping joints moving properly and/or stimulating the nervous system through "adjustments" of the skeletal system, the nervous system will be allowed to function optimally and thus allow your entire body to function optimally.
So far, research has shown chiropractic "adjustments" to be an effective treatment for headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, sciatica, as well as some other musculoskeletal conditions. Chiropractic theory suggests that there are a wide variety of additional systemic and visceral conditions that could also be helped with chiropractic such as asthma, infantile cholic, hypertension, etc., but this is currently only based on theory and anecdotal clinical evidence.
How many chiropractors graduate each year in the US?
Approximately 4,000 to 5,000 chiropractors graduate each year in the United States. This number can vary slightly depending on the number of accredited chiropractic schools and their enrollment capacities. Overall, the chiropractic profession continues to see a steady influx of new graduates annually.
Are there long term side effects of chiropractic Manipulation?
Manipulation is performed to improve joint motion. A properly performed manipulation (typically called an adjustment) is isolated on only joints with restricted movement. The result is an isolated stretch and more normal movement. This should have no negative long-term negative side-effects.
Theoretically, if a joint is manipulated over and over again without assessment, this could make a joint hypermobile. A skilled chiropractor would not do this. A good analogy is how a dental hygeinist could possibly hurt your teeth by over-scaling them, but they just would not do that.
A common misconception is that manipulation causes arthritis. This is ironic, since adjustments improve movement, therefore preventing osteoarthritis.
This misconception is from the idea that bending your knuckles to crack them causes arthritis. This unskilled manipulation may cause wear and tear on joints that would cause osteoarthritis. Chiropractic adjusting technique is designed to not cause wear and tear on a joint, but to improve its mobility and health. ,
Optimal functioning nervous system, positive attitude to life, leading to healthy lifestyle practices, and positive improvements in overall health, well-being and quality of life are are some of the long-term side effects of Network Care.
Can a chiropractor withhold patient records if the patient has an outstanding bill?
No. This is tantamount to preventing you from obtaining healthcare, and is a violation under HIPAA.
What are the names of the different pulses in the body?

How long does it take to be a chiropracter?
Prospective chiropractors are required to have a Doctor of Chiropractic degree which is a postgraduate professional degree that takes 4-5 academic years to complete. Admission to D.C. programs requires at least 90 credits of undergraduate education with pre-requisite courses of basic science including physics, inorganic and organic chemistry, psychology and biology. Most chiropractic students earn a bachelor's degree before going onto a chiropractic school.
The average classroom and clinical study hours prior to graduation is about 4800hrs compared to the medical curriculum being 4600hrs. The curriculum includes neuroscience/anatomy, gross anatomy (dissection of human cadaver), physiology, pathology, microbiology, diagnostic imaging (x-ray and MRI), patient assessment, clinical diagnosis, rehabilitation, and multiple chiropractic technique classes. Also chiropractic students get supervised clinical experience with a licensed chiropractor in the last year of a D.C. program.
Doctors of chiropractic must pass national board examinations and become state licensed. Chiropractic colleges also offer post-graduate continuing education programs in specialty fields. This extensive education prepares to become a primary health care provider as well as the primary neuromuscular system specialist.

Can a chiropractor able to give a shot?
That depends upon the state laws and board rules that govern chiropractic practice. In most states the answer is no, but you should seek the advice of your states chiropractic board for the answer to that question.
Do you need a license to practice chiropractics?
Chiropractors must follow the scope of practice that each state board sets for them. Some states allow for a variety of treatment methods and other states are much stricter.
The primary method of treatment that chiropractors use is spinal manipulation, which is often referred to as an adjustment. In addition to that, many chiropractors use nutritional supplements and soft tissue work to facilitate their holistic style of healing. A wide variety of modalities including but not limited to superficial heat, cryotherapy, micro-current, trans-cutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and cold laser are also used by chiropractors regularly. Some states even allow chiropractors to act in a similar way as a physical therapist by allowing them to prescribe exercises to promote healing while other states do not. Chiropractors are very regularly the primary care provider for patients and are often licensed and educated on how to do a comprehensive physical exam including orthopedic exams, neurological exams and even genital exams, in some states. Some states allow chiropractors to treat a variety of health conditions while other states require that chiropractors only treat conditions related to the back. In general states do not allow chiropractors to treat with drugs whether they are over the counter or prescription, but there is a small push in some states to allow chiropractors to do so. In states such as Oregon chiropractors may even be certified to do minor surgeries. In general, there is a wide variety of what chiropractors are allowed to do from state to state as mentioned above which is why I highly recommend visiting your state's chiropractic board website.
What to do if your skull hurts?

How do you paralyze some one with pressuer points?
Pinch them -Hard!- On the side of their neck. They will black out for at least 10 minutes.
ANSIt works for Spock on Star Trek but, short of making a person pass out from the pain, there is not a pressure point that will make a person faint. If you go around pinching people on the neck you'll likely run into legal problems.Applying pressure to the carotid arteries in the neck to restrict blood flow to the brain will obviously cause a person to black out but the act is generally given the term "strangulation" and performing it is usually considered "attempted murder". Jack Bauer can get away with it but you'll probably spend a long time in striped daylight.

How much does a typical chiropract or appointment cost?
There are no standard tuition and fee rates for colleges and universities. Each institution will have rates particular to itself. There are a number of variables to consider to include whether the institution is public or private, the geographical location, the specific program of study (some of which have greater course and/or clinical fees), and whether the school is a two year or four year institution. Once you collect the names of some colleges and universities you have an interest in, you can then research the cost specific to those institutions.

Can chiropractors help arthritis?
Chiropractors are well trained in the pathology, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of arthritis.
Chiropractors may be able to help someone that is suffering from osteoarthritis by providing spinal manipulation or deep tissue therapy that can help relieve the associated pain and inflammation. Further, chiropractors can help by giving nutritional, suplementation or excercise advice that can help reduce pain, inflammation and/or joint space reductions.
If the condition is rheumatoid arthritis, then all of the above will still apply, except for spinal manipulation, which itself is not a treatment for rheumatoid arthritisand should not be performed
Thus, the treatment of arthritis by a chiropractor is often judged on a case-by-case basis, and only your chiropractor will be able to tell you how much he/she can help.
There is some research that suggests that keeping joints moving properly throughout life (by being active, and perhaps with regular chiropractic care) may reduce the liklihood of getting arthritis in the first place.
Is a DO degree a chiropractor?
A DO is a Doctor of Osteopathic medicine. A chiropractor is a Doctor of Chiropractic. In the beginning (early 1900's) both Chiropractors and Osteopaths treated the body through spinal manipulation. Now Osteopaths have joined the American Medical Association and currently prescribe drugs and perform surgery. While they are trained in spinal alignment and manipulation it can be difficult to find an Osteopath that performs this procedure. Chiropractors are an independent group and remain commited to treating the body without drugs or surgery through spinal manipulation.
