A DO is a Doctor of Osteopathic medicine. A chiropractor is a Doctor of Chiropractic. In the beginning (early 1900's) both Chiropractors and Osteopaths treated the body through spinal manipulation. Now Osteopaths have joined the American Medical Association and currently prescribe drugs and perform surgery. While they are trained in spinal alignment and manipulation it can be difficult to find an Osteopath that performs this procedure. Chiropractors are an independent group and remain commited to treating the body without drugs or surgery through spinal manipulation.
