Perhaps Henry Mill, who patented the first typewriter in 1714. There are other people that people claim as the inventor, but this is the earliest claim that I can find.

The first QUERTY typewriter keyboard was invented in 1873 by Christopher Sholes, one of the many people who were part of inventing the typewriter in its current form.

Most keyboards do not have a degree symbol. You usually can get a degree symbol in most MS Office programs by inserting a symbol and select the degree symbol from the list of options available.

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, hit the Start key (Windows key), type "charmap" (without quotes), click "enter", click on the character you want and click "select", then "copy". You then have the character to paste anywhere you want. ° I just pasted in this degree symbol using the above directions. You can also right-click on "character map" before hitting "enter" and then you have the option of pinning it to the Start Menu or adding it to Quick Launch. This makes it so much easier to access it quickly.

The reason the keyboard is the way it is, is purely because that was the first way a typewriter was made. The problem was that commonly used keys would clash together. So to stop that happening, Sholes (the guy who made the typewriter) separated common keys to stop this. Now, we whinge about it, but everyone's used to it.

The proper placement of fingers on a computer keyboard are as followed;

Your right index finger should rest lightly on the J key- it's usually accompanied by some sort of texture difference, a small bump or some such, but that's not always the case based on the keyboard you're using.

Following the natural order of your right hand, rest your middle finger on the K key. Your right ring finger should be on the L, and your right pinky should rest on the semi-colon key ( ; key.)

Your left index finger should rest lightly on the F key, also usually textured with a bump, tab or some sort, and from there your left middle finger should rest on the D key, your left ring finger should rest on the S key, and your left pinky should rest on the A key.

Remember to give yourself correct posture while typing- Eyes forward, back straight against your chair, feet on the floor.

When I first started out, I had to look at the keys often. Don't be afraid to look at the keys, but try to use all ten of your fingers by reaching out with all ten of them, following the basic outline listed above.

Also remember to stop once in a while, stretch out your hands. Your Words Per Minute, or WPM, will improve drastically with practice and patience.

If you use any program to chat with other people, try to change your typing habits to type properly. Use capitalization and puncuation, even if you are slower doing so, and avoid acronyms like "lol" "brb" and "afk". Type them out!

End is a navigation key. Pressing the "End" key places the insertion point at the end of a line when you are in some text selection or editing mode. Other applications have their own actions when the End key is pressed. Pressing Ctrl, Shift, Alt and the End keys simultaneously may do some other things depending on the application that is active. For example, if you are using Excel and you are in the middle of a column of numbers and press the End key and then press the down arrow key, it will bring you down to the last number in that group of numbers in the column.

With a word processor, you can easily correct the typos, design page layout, save for future printing, and so on.

A word processor is digital, usually has no moving parts (aside from the output device and the keyboard) and sometimes considered a computer, and a type writer is analog, and is considered mechanical, and has moving parts.

A QWERTY keyboard's name comes from reading the first six keys in the top left letter row. It is also the most common keyboard layout.

It's the middle row of letters, beginning with CAPs Lock and A S D F. Most keyboards also have two little notches that indicate where your pointer fingers should rest in standard position.

In text you need to change the font to superscript.

In spreadsheets you use the ^ symbol. So 46 would be entered as "=4^6".

It will take you to the end of your sentence when typing for easier navigation.

The escape button is used to get out of some programs and to get out of games quickly and effectively. Sometimes if you press the escape button in a game, it will direct you to the main menu, and not out of the game.
