Why does your monitor make hissing sounds?

There are many small transformers and electronic oscillators in a CRT monitor which scan the electrons across the screen, blank them at the end of a line and return the beam to the left of the screen in order to start the scan again. These transformers have alternating currents flowing through them which make the ferrite cores 'chatter' at the same frequency. This frequency is about 18,000 cycles per second which makes this audible noise.

Will a lcd screen freeze in cold weather?

Very cold temperatures can damage an LCD TV.

The "L" in "LCD" stands for liquid, and although the liquid crystal material freezes at a much lower temperature than water, it can still freeze and damage the panel. My LG 32LE5400 LED LCD manual specifies an operating temperature range between 32 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit and a storage temperature range between -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. I use it on my covered patio and in the unlikely event that temperatures in Orlando dip below 0 I'm moving the TV inside. Check the product specifications in your TV's manual to determine what's safe.

I've read that LCD switching slows as temperature drops; if so, this would result in blurred motion. I've also read that operating LCD TVs at temperatures below the lower operating temperature limit can result in permanent damage to the display. Don't know that this is true from personal experience but given the price of these TVs I personally intend to err on the side of caution.

How does a computer screen work?

It uses binary to create pixels. There are three parts to a pixel; the X coordinate, the Y coordinate, and the color. There is a sort of grid system. The X and Y coordinates tell the monitor where to place the pixel, while the color tells it what color to change it to. The combination of all the millions of pixels creates a picture on-screen.

How is CMOS RAM able to hold data even when the power is off?

CMOS is not RAM. While it is memory, unlike main system RAM, CMOS is very tiny and only holds the BIOS configuration, nothing else. RAM is made from transistors and capacitors, which must be recharged. CMOS is made from several transistors wired as flip flops. It only needs a tiny amount of power to hold its data, and that comes from a small battery. If you remove the battery, it will lose everything.

How do I get my computer to go full screen?

If you're referring to screen resolution and you're running the Windows operating system, try the following steps:
  • Right click your desktop
  • Select "Screen Resolution" and a window will open
  • From here, you'll have several drop-downs. You'll want to click the one next to "resolution", and select the highest setting available. You can play around this until you're happy with the screen dimensions. To apply your selections, click "Apply" and then "OK"

Otherwise, if you are referring to full screen on your Internet browser - this can be done very simply by hitting (not literally of course -- a slight tap will do) the F11 key. To get out of the full screen mode, just tap F11 again and your browser will be back to normal.
