I'm not sure what you mean by 'view mode', but To change the contrast or brightness, there are probably buttons somewhere on the monitor - see the documentation that came with it. To change the size of various things on your screen, go to control panel, then choose 'display'. From the settings tab you can alter the screen resolution, which will make everything bigger (or smaller) - but may distort things, especially if you have a wide-screen monitor. If you choose the next tab along: 'appearance', you get all sorts of options via the 'advanced' button. If you just wanted to change the size of what you see on your monitor when using an Office application, click on 'view', then click on 'zoom' to change the zoom level. If you need to change zoom levels frequently, you can pin the zoom option to your toolbar: click on the down-pointing arrow at the far right of the existing toolbar, select 'add or remove buttons', then 'standard'; check the box for zoom in the list that appears.

Computer monitors (and all displays really) work by displaying a matrix of tiny dots (called pixels) in a grid which make up the picture on your screen.

Display resolution is simply the number of pixels your screen is displaying.

This would generally be caused by a broken wire within the video cable. Green is not the only variation of this problem. Replacing the cable will most likely fix the issue.

Few computer devices communicate directly to the monitor...the only one is the video card. Some video cards are built into the motherboard, called an integrated video card, and some fit into an expansion slot like an AGP slot, a PCI slot, or a PCI-E slot.

In fact, computers run JUST FINE without a monitor attached....the monitor is there only so you know what the computer is doing. Raster images are made up of pixels, Vector images are made up of paths. Raster images (sometimes called bitmap images) are made up of a grid of pixels, each of which can be a different colour.
Vector images, on the other hand, rely upon mathematical relationships between points in order to make up paths, which when all combined, make up a full image.


Bitmaps are better for photographs or images with complex shading. Vectors are better typefaces and illustrations. Vectors also scale much better than bitmaps.

LCD displays are more delicate than CRT displays, so more care must be used when manufacturing and packaging them. Most technologies become cheaper the longer they are manufactured and the more are produced; the cost will naturally come down as time goes on. CRT displays have been manufactured for over 50 years, so they are still cheaper than LCD displays, which have only been remotely popular for 20 years, and only taken off for desktop computers in the past ten.

It depends on what you plan to use it for. Assuming you hold everything else constant (processor, RAM, video card, etc.) a smaller screen will net you lighter weight and longer battery life (less screen area = less power needed to fuel it), but it will cost you screen size (obviously). If you plan to be very mobile with the laptop (taking it to classes, coffee shops, meetings, etc.) then the lighter weight and longer battery life will probably be worth more to you than the extra screen space. If the laptop is likely to spend most of it's time in the same location and plugged in, then you won't notice the loss of battery life and added weight, but you will appreciate the extra screen area when (which is especially nice if you plan to do any serious amount of gaming/video watching with it).

In short, if you plan to use it on the go, go for the 14". If you plan to use it mostly as a desktop replacement, go for the 15".
