The G2210 is LED Backlit, so it consumes less power and is more environmentally friendly than the E2210. It could potentially also be thinner. The screen probably looks slightly better too - although both use relatively cheap 'TN' panel technology.

Older computer monitors are based on a cathode ray tube, hence the name CRT monitors. Most CRT computer monitors have a VGA input or a VGA compatible input.

Many years ago, computer monitors used display standards such as CGA, EGA and Hercules. All were digital interfaces with restricted color depth. CGA was limited to 16 colors, EGA had 64 and Hercules was a monochrome image limited to black, white and bright white. The connection to the monitor was a 9 pin D connector, the same size as a VGA 15 pin but with fewer pins. If any of these monitors survive, they will not take a VGA signal. Any monitor with a VGA 15 pin connector is very likely to accept VGA signals but be warned that they are normally limited to lower resolutions than modern LCD displays.

I've run into this problem when utilizing Dell LCD panels and the DVI output. If the monitor is not plugged in when the tower is turned on, the PC does not utilize the DVI and defaults to the VGA. When you plug in the DVI connector the monitor realizes it has been plugged in and the LED will go green. When it does not get a signal from the PC it will go into power save mode and the LED will turn orange. Try plugging in the cable then powering the machine all the way down before restart. If you are running dual displays, ensure the second video card is enabled. Or, worst case scenario, you may simply have a bad video card.

Over time, rubbing alcohol may deteriorate the plastic surface of an LCD, which can cause it to discolor or even crack, so it is not recommended as a regular cleaner for computer displays. Occasionally, however, there may be need to use rubbing alcohol for stubborn smudges or spots, so if you need to use rubbing alcohol in such a scenario, be sure to thoroughly wipe the area with a neutral cleaning solution (ionized water, or a neutral product such as iKlear or Endust for Electronics) afterwards to prevent prolonged chemical reaction between the alcohol and the display surface.

We hear much about digital and analog signals and most people know nothing about the difference. Let's try to give some simple basics.

A digital piece of electronics is either on, or it is off, Black or white with no gray in between. Early electrical devices used 5 volts circuitry. If the five volts was there, we had a digital "on" condition. If the 5 volts was not there, we had a digital "off" condition. We could use this in many ways. One way was to call the "on" condition a mathematical "1" and the ansence if the voltage a "0". That means we could make electrical devices count to one! BIG DEAL? well, yes it was because that is how every computer out there works, as well as how the internet transfers all this cool stuff!

Analog is everything in between the "0" and the "1" of digital electronics. This an probably the most interesting area for most engineers that really know electronics. You may be able to save audio information in digital form, but your ear sure wants to hear it in analog. The ability to vary voltages between the full on and off of the divice requires more currents and more design abilities. All actual transmission of every radio or television signal is done through and analog transmitter. When you hear about the end of analog television and the new digital transmission, they are actually discussing the input to the analog transmitter.

The ability to decode digital transmissions on this analog signal allows us to use much more of the transmission band for the given device. A television signal that could only put out maybe 7 signals in analog now can carry many signals. That television station you are watching could also be sending a great deal of other information out! Even in analog we could send a dozen different things out "behind" that signal you could hear and see. "Muzak" (the elevator music) goes out "behind" these tv or radio signals (called sub carriers). Digital encoding of this information allows for many many times the sub carriers on a given station.

You do not need drivers for a monitor.

You can use remote control software so you can see what's going on on the PC. To do that you have to first set up your PC witch requires a monitor. Maybe you can borrow one to set it up.
