What does 512 MB of ram equal?

To give a basic overview of RAM and ROM: Read-only-memory refers to memory that cannot be changed. You have it in your computer under the form of a BIOS ROM chip. Files and programs are stored in non-volatile memory (such as hard drives) then transferred to Random-Access-Memory (RAM, usually called "memory" by the average person) to work with.

RAM (Random-Access-Memory) is what the computer works with. Most computers now days come out with at least 2GB of RAM (512MB is half a gigabyte).

RAM is one of the major deciding factors in how fast your computer runs. It can be upgraded but should only be upgraded by someone knowledgeable in the subject and shouldn't be attempted by a non-professional, especially while under warranty.

One of the reasons to get a higher amount of RAM is to run games. All games should have minimum specifications, which is the lowest amount of hard drive space, RAM, graphics et cetera to run the game. For example, The Sims 3 has a minimum specification of 2GB of RAM.

Programs can take up different amount of RAM. On average, on my laptop iTunes will take up around 500MB of RAM (though I have a large library and use the album art look), Google Chrome (my web browser) uses roughly 90MB with a few tabs open and Word 2010 uses roughly 55MB. However, these are only rough estimates and shouldn't be used as your only sources.

Internal parts of CPU?

ALU (Arithmetic and Logic Unit) - performs all the calculations and equations of the computer

Main Memory (RAM, ROM, CACHE) - information that is passed through the RAM, ROM, and CACHE goes through this particular part of the CPU, which is then directed to the appropriate hardware.

CU (Control Unit) - controls the computers resource output and input that is processed through the CPU

What does Cc mean on your email?

"Cc" stands for "carbon copy". Years ago, to make a copy of something one was writing, carbon paper was put in between two or more sheets of paper. (It still is used by many seamstresses to put down printed lines on fabric for accurate cutting.)

For correspondence, it also meant to whom a copy of one's business letter went to, as well as the originally intended recipient. It could also mean that a copy was made for the files of one's business prior to being sent out.

"Bcc" stands for "blind carbon copy". A blind carbon copy means that copies are sent to other recipients, without their names or addresses being divulged. As an etiquette professional, I prefer that emails sent out en masse to my personal email address, be sent out using "Bcc" I do not wish to have the email addresses of hundreds of people I do not know, nor do I wish for them to have mine.

What are file type extensions?

A file extension is the last (usually 3) letters after the full stop. These letters define what application the file was written for e.g.

filename.doc = a Microsoft word file

filename.mp3 = a mp3 audio file

filename.exe = an executable computer program

filename.pages = an apple pages file

filename.jpeg = a picture file

and so on.

Hope this helps,

SysEx.

Clock speed measures the speed and it's measured in megahertz.

What is faster gigabyte per second or megabytes per second?

A gigahertz is much faster. Mega means million and giga means billion so it takes 1,000 megahertz to make one gigahertz. So on a piece of computer hardware one gigahertz means one billion cycles per second. Bytes are measured the same way.

What is the storage capacity of cache memory?

Cache memory is a type of memory. It does not dictate a specific quantity. The actual amount varies and can best be determined by looking up the specifications for your particular CPU chip.

How you can find dll files on your computer?

It should be noted that most DLL files are subject to copyright, and redistribution legalese. Meaning, they typically come with a product such as Microsoft Windows or Word or what-not, and there is legal language in place that makes unsolicited redistribution illegal in many cases. Whenever you distribute any form of computer software (including DLLs), or whenever you obtain such software other than from the original vendor, you are likely to violate the law.

Also: Before replacing them, you might want to try (in XP):

start / run: SFC /scannow
(the system file checker will look for corrupted / invalid dll's and replace them from your windows CD ... )

What is the difference between 16 bit channel and 8 bit channel?

Quality is the difference. When playing sound with 8-bit sample resolution, we have the sound wave encoded with 256 levels what is not very accurate. Analog circuits placed after digital to analog converter (DAC) can smooth the wave, but it also looses some details.

When 16-bit samples are used, the sound is encoded with 65536 levels. This allows to record and play music with greater accuracy. It souns then much better.
