What is the unit storage generally used for ram?

The unit storage generally used for RAM is bytes, megabytes which is MB, and gigabytes which is GB. 1 gigabyte is equal to 1024 gigabytes.

What is larger a megabyte or a kilobyte?

A megabyte is made up 1024 kilobytes. The next step up is gigabytes, the larger the file, the more kilobytes needed. It's the same as centimeters, then meters, then kilometers. It's just a unit of measurement for how much space if required (if designated for storage).

A small graphic may be a dozen kilobytes, a small picture with limited detail could be several hundred kilobytes, detailed pictures will start taking up increasingly more megabytes of space with the more detail they contain. A 3 minute song could be anywhere from 3 to 7 megabytes, etc etc.

What is a difference between systems administrator and Linux systems administrator?

"System Administrator" is just that a general sysadmin that more than likely is only certified to use Windows Server and is network-savvy. Whereas a Linux System Administrator is certified in Linux and networking.

How do you uninstall Webroot soft ware?

Is a computer an analog device?

The majority of modern computing devices are digital. That means they work by using many on and off type electrical signals. Analog computers work by using vary ranges of constantly-changing signals in real-time without converting them to digital sequences first.

How many bytes are in 1 packet?

I found an answer to this question:

I downloaded a file and then compared the download rate shown in the Download dialog box with the packet received rate shown in the Local Area Connection dialog box. On my computer 1 MB downloaded equated to @ 1000 packets received. In this case one packet = @1000 bytes.

Note: My connection speed is 100.0 Mbps

What is rule 35?

When in doubt it's a man. This internet rules applies to guessing the gender of a forum, chatroom, or instant messenger user.

When trying to figure out an online users gender, remember Rule 33.

What are gigabytes?

A gigabyte (GB) is a unit of computer memory or data storage capacity.

Officially, it is equal to 1,000 megabytes (MB), or 1,000,000,000 (109) bytes. This is the way it is used for hard drives, DVDs and other media, networking bandwidth, and by Mac OS X and Linux for disk and file sizes:

  • 1 bit = a single "zero or one" data state
  • 1 byte = 8 bits
  • 1 kilobyte = 1,000 bytes {kilo- = thousand}
  • 1 megabyte = 1,000,000 bytes {mega- = million}
  • 1 gigabyte = 1,000,000,000 bytes {giga- = billion}
  • 1 terabyte = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes {tera- = trillion}

Unofficially, the term "gigabyte" is often used as an approximation for a power of two: 230 bytes. This is more properly called a "gigabinary byte" or "gibibyte" (GiB), but people continue to use it incorrectly. In this usage, it is equal to 1,024 "mebibytes" or 1,073,741,824 bytes. This is commonly used by computer memory manufacturers and in Microsoft Windows for disk and file sizes:

  • 1 kibibyte (KiB) = 1,024 bytes {kibi- = kilobinary}
  • 1 mebibyte (MiB) = 1,024 × 1,024 bytes {mebi- = megabinary}
  • 1 gibibyte (GiB) = 1,024 × 1,024 × 1,024 bytes {gibi- = gigabinary}
  • 1 tebibyte (TiB) = 1,024 × 1,024 × 1,024 × 1,024 bytes {tebi- = terabinary}

A common urban legend is that hard drive manufacturers switched from measuring in multiples of 1024 to multiples of 1000 in order to inflate their specs. In fact, hard drives have always been measured in multiples of 1000, since they were first produced. For instance, the introduction of the 1974 Winchester HDD used "Mbyte" to mean 1,000,000 bytes.

It's only with increasing hard drives sizes that the difference between Microsoft's non-standard measurements and the manufacturer's standard measurements has become significant.

Using "GB" for 1,000,000,000 bytes and "GiB" for 1,073,741,824 bytes eliminates any such confusion.
Gigabyte is a term used to refer to an amount of storage on a computer hard disk or ram. It can also be a speed as well, for example your hard drive may transfer 1 gigabyte per second (which is extremely fast). A gigabyte is 1024 megabytes.
It defines 1 billion bytes. A byte being a single unit of computer code which itself contains 8 bits.

The term is generally used today to define computer memory, such as my computer has 8 gigabytes of RAM which is computer memory.

How many is a mega?

Typically "Mega" refers to "million", but in the case of computers this is not exactly so. 1 Megabyte is eual to 1,024 Kilobytes. So technically speaking, in the case of computers, 1 Megabyte is 1048576 bytes, answering your question.

Who ever said computers were an exact science? haha

Edit 1: This is a great answer

How many MB equal 2 Gig?

0.00244140625 gigabytes == Bytes are storage units defined for data to be kept(/transfered) in(/to-from) computer. 1 Byte consists of 8 bits (bit is the smallest unit of data storage/transfer). Now, in science, mega, giga, tera, peta etc are used if a munber is multiplied with 1000 (subsequently). This means, (for say, voltage) 1 volt x 1000= 1 megavolt. 1 megavolt x 1000= 1 gigavolt 1 gigavolt x 1000=1 teravolt . . . . Now, in storage for computers, we use 1024 as the multiplier instead of 1000. It is because memory is calculated based on 2 (raised to power) n, and for n=10 (=1024) is comes out to be almost equal to the decimal system format. Now, the answer to the question, 2.5 megabytes = (say) m gigabytes. 1 gigabytes=1megabytes x 1024. so, 1 megabyte=1 gigabyte/1024. 2.5 megabyte=2.5gigabyte/1024. hence, 2.5megabytes=0.00244140625 gigabytes ~= 0.00244 gigabytes

What is ram and rom computer memories?

ROM is an acronym for Read-Only Memory. Once data has been written onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and can only be read. RAM is an acronym for Random Access Memory. Specific contents can be read or written directly by the CPU in a very short time, regardless of the order in which they were recorded.

Do memory cards make your cell phone go faster?

A basic Cell Phone has a limited amount of memory when manufactured. If your phone can take pictures or video it will have some memory but will need more memory to store lots of pictures and long videos. You can add internal and external memory cards depending on the make & model. The basic is a One gig micro card that is inserted internally in most phones. It does not make the phone faster only expands it's ability to store more information.

Differentiate the computer literacy from computer competency?

These terms are similar, and generally go hand in hand. Computer literacy means that a person knows the computer terminology. A person who is computer literate knows how to use terms such as cursor, minimize, task bar, RAM, etc. A person who is computer competent is someone who knows very well how to use a computer. People who are computer competent know how to do most basic tasks on a computer; like installing and uninstalling programs, changing settings, etc.
