Zombie computers are any system attached to a network that silently (unannounced to the user) perform tasks on the network to reach a predetermined goal. A computer system can become a zombie computer by being infected via a network transferable source such as via email, or via a local source delivered from a flash drive or other external source. It is most common for each zombie computer to be performing a small portion of the larger goal, and be part of a larger group of zombie computers that are all working together for the same purpose. This way, if one zombie computer is brought offline, the goal can still be reached. It also ensures that each infected system is not diverting a great deal of resources to the zombie process, which helps to ensure the zombie node is not detected and repaired.

Network consequences are dependent on what the task is that the zombie collective is working on, and how many zombie nodes are contributing vs the scale of the network they sit on. For example, if 10 systems on a network of 10,000 systems are infected, the likelihood of the network being bogged down by the zombie traffic is minimal. However, it also depends on whether the goal the zombie collective is trying to achieve is targeting the local network they are on, or something outside the network on the internet, as 10 computers working to overload a local server, may achieve some results, while 10 computers trying to overload Google for instance would have little effect.

A character set is a set of characters like QWERTY that is the standard character set for the keyboard. Sure we may have programmed them to do what they do today but if you put the best chess player against the best supercomputer the supercomputer will more than likely beat the human at chess. Sure we created them, but everyday people are trying to give a computer a mind of its own. When they do succeed computers will most likely take over the world. They will dwarf us in intelligence in one second! Besides computers are making more intelligent machines today.

People say that the human brain can process more instructions per second than any supercomputer. The fastest supercomputer in the world is the Tianhe - 1 which processes information at 2.5 petaFLOPS. Which is equivilant to over two and a half quadrillion calculations per second! But the biggest difference between humans and computers are emotions.

there are two things you may be talking about here as the two are often confused:

1. Dual processors. in which case, there are 2 separate processors on the motherboard, effectively doubling the computing capacity. There are very few motherboards and cases that support this but one that does is the Mac Pro from Apple. Using dual quad core processors, the computer can utilize up to 8 cores.

2. Dual core. in this case, there is one physical processor which is essentially split in half. this allows the computers to process 2 things at once whereas single core processors can only do 1.
