In times past, people would raise corn for their own use. When the miller ground the corn, he would keep a portion (the miller's toll) as his payment. The miller might use a small amount for himself, but sold most of it to people that did not grow corn. (My grandad was a miller)
Which country does corn beef come from?
It is a method of preserving beef which originated in Ireland
Actually no.. quite on the contrary if any. If the farmer grows both cow corn and sweet corn, the way we did it was the sweet corn on the outside 3 or 4 or however many rows, and the cow corn on the inside. It made it easier to pick, and you didn't ruin any cow corn when you tried to harvest it, because the outside was sweet corn which had already been picked.
Additional Info. While it is very occasionally done, as both the answer above and one of the discussion points mention, it is only done in either way (outside or inside the field) on a very small portion of the field -- for the farm family's convenience. If you want high quality sweet corn, it must be planted in a location isolated from field (cow) corn, or any other type of corn, because the other corn's pollen will make the sweet corn kernels go "starchy". The best sweet corn (and what you buy in the can or frozen) is grown in a field all by itself for this reason.Does round up ready corn have thicker skin around the kernal?
Not as a result of the Roundup Ready gene. Some varieties have a thicker pericarp, the skin on the outside of the kernel, but those varieties intended for forage are bred to have a thinner pericarp to make them more palatable.

How long do you soak corn on cob before grilling?
You don't have to soak corn on the cob at all to grill it. Simply rinse the corn thoroughly in cold running water, lay it on a piece of tin foil large enough to wrap the ear of corn in, add a teaspoon of butter, a little salt and pepper, and seal it in the foil. It doesn't take long for fresh corn to cook on the grill; probably no longer than 10 minutes. If you over-cook, the corn may be tough.
Will dried corn hurt laying hens?
No. Corn is a big part of the daily feed for most chickens. Cracked corn and whole kernels of dried corn are suitable for a chickens diet as long as the bird is big enough to swallow the grain. Very young chicks may need the grain ground down to a smaller size.
