Sweet corn and all corn that we use commercially is annual, and must be replanted every year. There are varieties that have been crossed with Zea Teosinte (a wild relative of corn/maize native to Mexico) that are perennial.

Actually, many scientists have declared corn to be a grain. In a study carried out in 2000, nutritionists from Yale University said that because they weren't root plants, they couldn't be vegetables. Candy Day is a holiday specific to One region of Guatemala which includes sharing candy with friends, dancing around a bonfire and making homemade chocolate with family! This day is celebrated because of the opening of the dentists office the next day. Guatemalan kids believe that after the dentist opens then they can't have as much candy so they stuff it all in on Candy Day.
