What does it mean if your hermit crab come out of its shell and won't go back in?

Hermit crabs are nocturnal, so it sounds like your hermit must have gone to sleep. Mine has slept for a week, once! If you get home and you find your hermit crab out of it's shell and looking see-through, then it has molted. Hermits usually molt on their 'birthday' but stay in their shells a while prior to molting.

My hermit crab has lost both of its claws what can you do?

Both claws gone-

Hermit crabs use the big claw as a shield, a hand, and a weapon, the smaller shell is normally used for drinking water. It will be able to eat powdery or wet food with the small claw, but won't be able to defend itself, so it will be kind of skittish and scared. The claw will only grow back the next time it molts, which if she is small, will most likely be within a few months.

If both claws are gone, crab will be able to pick up small bits of food with it's chelipods (mouth parts), continue to offer very small and soft foods.

How much sea salt do you put in a hermit crab salt bath?

First, land hermit crab salt water should be mixed according to package directions with a marine-grade salt mix such as Oceanic or Instant Ocean (you can find these online & at pet stores). Secondly, you should not bathe your land hermit crabs unless they are fresh from a pet store or have an issue like mites. Instead, you should provide a "pool" or dish deep enough for them to get in and dip the edge of their shell in to bathe themselves when they need to. Over bathing can result in fatal stress and/or messing with the concentration of fresh and salt water in their shell. Third, if you do have to bathe your crab, the only way you should use salt water is if you rinse them with fresh water after, too much salt water on their skin can be harmful. Remember, all hermit crab water should be treated to remove chlorine and chloramines; distilled water works great or you can buy a tap water conditioner.
