Dachshunds

Bred to hunt badgers, Dachshunds have distinctive long bodies and dwarf legs which helps them to reach the badger burrows through tunnels easier. Dachshunds come in two sizes, the standard and the miniature. These dogs also have three different coat types, smooth, longhaired and wirehaired.

How did Sandwhich come in the English language?

The word comes from John Montagu, Fourth Earl of Sandwich (note spelling) who would gamble all night and take his meals as meat between two slices of bread. Sandwich, the family name, is from Old English and means "sandy harbour".

What is dachshund favorite food?

Dachshunds eat what you give any other dog, dog food of course lol! :)

Alternate answerDachshunds eat what they want to eat. Mine mostly prefers meats, eggs, vegetables, cheeses, and rice. Sometimes dachshunds like to eat weird things like razor blades, flowers, wood, and the stuffing from toys, but this should be discouraged. Some dachshunds will even eat dogfood on a whim. So far as I can tell, they don't eat slugs, tomatoes, people, or lightbulbs.

How much pounds should you weigh at the age of 7?

At age 7, children's weight can vary significantly based on factors like genetics, height, and overall health. On average, a healthy weight range for a 7-year-old typically falls between 40 to 65 pounds. It's important to focus on growth patterns and overall well-being rather than a specific number, and consulting a pediatrician can provide personalized guidance.

What was the oldest recorded age that a miniature daschund lived to?

Not too sure what the record is but my minature daschund "Baxter" is 17 and going strong, he will be 18 in September 2008 . Has anyone got an older daschund?

I am also NOT sure of the oldest daschund, and I am really anxious to find out, but I have Princess, that was born April 15, 1990. She is 18 1/2 and still going great! I think she will out live us all!

Hi, I have Ellie a long haired minature dachshund who will be 18 this September. She is a real little fighter she slipped a disc at the age of 8 and it was 50/50 she would survive at the time. Her mother died 2 weeks after she was born and as she was the weakest in the litter being hand reared by her breeder she was lucky to survive. She is now deaf and blind but still a big character in a little body and I love her to bits - Please let me know how Baxter, Princess and any other old dachshunds are doing as I would love to know. What type of group are the dachshunds in?

The American Kennel Club or AKC list the dachshund within the Hound Group. The familiar dachshund descends from the cross breeding of hounds and terriers to hunt a variety of game animals. However, in America, the dachshund hunting abilities are seldom fostered. They are often acquired to be family pets or companion dogs. As such, their terrier heritage becomes pronounced while their hound instincts are suppressed. That is, as family or companion dog, they behave more like terriers then hounds.

This has lead to some dachshund enthusiast wanting the AKC to reclassify the dachshund as a breed of terrier. Therefore, it would be listed within the Terrier Group. That would be erroneous. The dachshund is a true hound that are competent hunters, if given the opportunity.

The Dachshund is usually described as clever, lively, and courageous to the point of rashness. He's bred for perseverance, which is another way of saying that he can be stubborn.

Boredom, cold weather, excessive weight, advanced age, and illness can make a dachshund appear to be lazy. Laziness could do it too. It happens.

How dangerous is it for a seven year old to be a lacrosse goalie?

Playing the goalie position for any sport can be a danger. However, in a seven year old league, the likeliness of a child getting hurt is moderate. Most kids, if they can get the ball to the goal at this age, will probably take a more "wild" shot and not really care how the ball enters the goal, as long as it does. Whenever you play goalie in a sport, there is always the possibility of getting hit. However a seven year old probably couldn't really cause any damage due to their newness to the game and the undeveloped shooting skills they would have.

It depends... if the seven year old is playing in a seven year old league, then probably not, although if they get hit by the ball, it will probably really hurt them. If the seven year old is playing with older kids, then he/she will probably end up getting hurt though, unless the person has good accuracy and can avoid the goalie.

Why can you not bred two dapple dachshunds together?

If you breed two dapple dachshunds together the puppies have a high possibility of being born without or underdeveloped eyes, blind, and deaf. It is not worth the risk to create a double dapple dachshund. The poor puppies have to live their entire lives with those birth defects and its very hard to find them good homes.

Not "dashhaund", but rather, "Dachshund" (Docks hoont) which in German means Badger Hound.

Another answer;

We unexpectedly fell in love with a miniature long haired dachshund pup at our local pet shop and we've had her for three years. Dachshunds are a handful and you have to be careful about what you let them do considering how easily they can get back problems - more so than other breeds. Our pup cost $1,000 (USD) and honestly you should either find a reputable breeder or go to a shelter because pet stores for lack of a better word suck. We would have never gotten Penny if we had been able to actually put her back in the cage. Good luck, I hope you find the perfect pup!

Yet Another Answer:

My family adopted two mini dachshunds 3 years ago for $200 from a local no-kill rescue. We love them so so so much! I definitely recommend buying from a rescue. Not only are they cheaper, but they also tend to be better behaved. I don't know why, it just is :) Try talking to some of your friends who have dogs and ask them where they got them, or go to Pet Smart and ask when they have their rescues over.

Ciao!
