Sure, but I wonder what your motivations are for doing so. Do they include finding her intellectually stimulating, having a lot of experiences interests or friends in common or do your true motivations lie elsewhere? Think these factors through thoroughly, because if you become emotionally involved with this young woman for the wrong reasons you are likely to end up causing yourself nothing but pain in the end. Good relationships come about when a man and a woman have as much in common as possible.
Another potential problem I see for the future of this relationship is the age difference between the two of you itself. When you're 60 she will be in her early 40s and still attractive and desirable, this is something else to think about. I am speaking from experience; my own partner is a woman who is 12 years older than I am. Last year she was diagnosed with cancer. She beat it, but I've seen this vibrant, energetic woman reduced to a bed ridden condition overnight. For over thirty years she has been my practice partner, now she can't even respond to client emails. Most of my day is spent taking care of her; I don't mind this; I love her. Will this young woman take care of you when you eventually become older?
As I said above good relationships are formed when both partners are as much alike as possible. You can't have an adversarial argument with your self, as I often say and you and this young woman do not even come from the same social culture. I would think this decision over carefully, for if she is simply an Ego boosting "arm piece" you are likely to bring yourself nothing but pain in the long run.

Poor self image is a common problem but fixing it is something that takes time and skill. She can only gain confidence by succeeding at things she fears failing at, and those things are often very deep and long lasting - maybe she herself cannot say what they are.
There is no quick answer that a stranger on a website can provide and probably not a lot you can do to help her. If she wants help, a therapist of some sort would be useful.

Well, that depends on if you are close friends or not. Get to know him as well as you can, and spend more time than usual with him, maybe even be brave and call him. Be yourself around him. It should be easier to tell him you like him, or you could do what I did and have a friend of yours (who's also his friend) find out for you if you're too shy. You should not feel as if you are walking on eggshells all the time. People who are controlling are not fully capable of the concept of just "being" with you. They have not let go of anger from the past and have not done the proper work on themselves to make them a better person and boyfriend.
