In the sixties it was a Girl named Iris. this is interesting as Iris (nothing to do with Irishness!) was the Goddess of the Rainbow and the female counterpart of the speed-messenger of the Gods- Mercury! as Flash, paritcularily the Golden age flash with modified WWi Helmet and jeans and flash device on his red shirt, was in part patterned after Mercury, what could be more appropriate.l Iris (in Greek Mythology) had the same powers of Mercury but when she flew she left a track of multi-colored light like perhaps the Aurora Borealis. It wouold have interesting comic art and rather serious comic art angles if developed but Iris Sullivan or Allen (not sure which was the name she used) was non-super powered. there was no Female Flash outside of maybe the Ronettes version of (Two silhouettes on the Shade) where Veronica pours on the (mercury) with wings on her feet!) as per the lyrics of the song which was somewhat cleaned up, she is not quite a peeping Thomasina!
