The year 2000 was not only the beginning of a new century, it was the beginning of a new millenium. It was a very exciting and, for some, fearful time to be alive. The reason for this is in most cultures dates not only mark the passage of time, but the hold both symbolic and memorable meaning. For some, a new millenium brought renewed hope and expectations of tremendous changes for the better in their own lives and in the world, and the mood was like a magnified New Years Eve party. For others it had religious or other significance that was frightening to them. Either way, it was momentous for those of us who live in the Western world and use the Julian calendar.
