VMK is the name of a PFM (Porcelain Fused to Metal) product developed by a dental technology company called VIDENT, a subsidiary of VITA. It stands for "VITA Metal Keramik". It does seem strange when you're reading through dental technology literature and you see references made to "porcelain fused to metal (VMK)" and then you think, I understand PFM; where does VMK come from; what does it mean? Well I found the answer a few links after arriving at this page so thought I'd come back and provide a real answer. Here's the website that gave me my answer:

Each country will have educational mandates and structure particular to that country. You will have to research each country of interest and search out the accrediting dental agencies whose responsibility it is to equate out-of -country course work with their own.

A dental student is still a student and therefore doesn't qualify for accreditation as they're not licensed dentists. Lastly, why would the patient have an accreditation unless they're a dentist themselves?

Your dentist should only be charging you the difference between the Aetna allowed fee for the exact service you are getting and the amount that aetna pays to him. The reason I say exact service is because sometimes the insurance companies do what's called downcode, which is basically paying on a code that is similar to what you are having done but the charge is lower. You would still be charged by the dentist the more expensive fee and have to pay the difference. For example if you were getting a tooth colored filling (1 suface): 1 surface filling: (Normal Dr.'s Fee) =$225 1 surface composite: Aetna Fee (not true amounts) =$100 Insurance says they will pay as if it were the silver= 80% of $30= $24 Your total copay =$76. Even though the insurance company only considered that they would pay for a silver filling, y ou are responsible for the dif between the true service and their portion. In the US a BDS degree from India means that you can get direct admission to 3rd year of DDS after clearing the National Dental Boards in high percentiles.

So a 4 year BDS degree from either India or Pakistan does not make you a dentist in either US or Canada untill you'r done with the DDS or DDM.
