Can someone just tell you how much it would cost to go to Los Angeles from Des Moines?

Almost any airline will quote you a price for a ticket.

Greyhound will provide a quote for the run.

By vehicle, divide the mileage by miles per gallon and multiply by $3.00 per gallon and add in an oil change, lube job and wheel alignment and tire balance to insure a safe drive at about $50.00 minimum. Add accomodations if required and a reasonable amount for subsistence, road tolls, and coffee.

A good guestimate would be $252.75 for fuel. $50.00 for the pre-drive check, $60.00 iin tolls, $60.00 for a bunk and a shower and $50.00 for food and snacks or about $500.00 to make the drive. This would assume an auto in good to excellent condition to begin with. ( I would not attempt the journey without carrying an American Express Card.)

Has anyone heard of Averill Dairy Company in Akron Ohio?

We live in a 1920's house in Richfield, OH., and just found a lot of glass milk bottles buried in our front yard (while trenching to tap into the city water line), and they are marked "Averill Dairy". Unfortunately many have been broken by the backhoe that was used to trench with. I'd love more info, too. The Averill Dairy Comp. My Great Grandfather Ernest L. Von Gunten helped run the farm and C.W. Von Gunten was the secretary and treasurer of the company. It is my belief that their father, Gottlieb Von Gunten, a native of Switzerland, owned the farm. I would love to have a piece of or a whole bottle. Please contact me at my email artbyjeffosborn@aol.com. Please feel free to correct any mistakes, as I am going from memory.
