What can happen if you force a puppies eyes open?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Forcing a puppy's eyes open will, at best, result in an eye infection, but more likely result in permanent blindness, so do not ever force their eyes open! They are born with their eyes shut for a reason, and they open when they do for a reason. 'Mother Nature' knows better than you when the puppy's eyes are ready to open, so leave them alone.

A newborn puppy's eyes should open after about 10 - 14 days, so if they aren't open by then, you need to contact your vet, because this could be a sign of serious illness or eye problems. But only your vet can determine this, and only your vet can safely open their eyes if necessary.

What happens if a dog dog knot's your anus or mouth?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If a dog knots your anus, it is the same as if he had knotted inside a bitch. The knot will swell and attempt to lock inside. If it is an exceptionally large dog, such as a great dane, this can cause damage to the anus and rectum. The average large dog (German shepherd, retriever, etc) will not cause damage to the average human adult. The part leading up to the knotting can be painful and possibly damaging however, as dogs mate at a rather furious pace. They also have a "bone" in their penis that makes it much harder than that of a human, and can be very painful jabbing inside. After the point of knotting, younger dogs will tend to attempt turning while older ones will tend to remain mounted. Personal preference determines allowing the turn or not.

As far as the mouth goes, this is extremely dangerous with other than small dogs. Again, the dog's penis is very hard and can cause trauma to throat and soft tissues during the mating process. Once the knot has been inserted into the mouth and has swollen, it can cause damage to or dislocate the jaw on a large or exceptional dog. The dog's penis will also swell with the knot, most likely blocking the throat entirely. Lastly, dogs will ejaculate on an almost constant basis during mating and after knotting. This can cause you to drown in dog semen while waiting for the dog's knot to go down. In short, a bad idea.

How many years of English in college to become a English major?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A bachelor's degree in most areas can require between 124 to 128 college credits particular to a specific program of study. This would be based on a college or university that operates on a regular two semester academic year which is the most common. For institutions that operate on a tri-semester or quarter-semester it would be quite different. That being said, the Bachelor's degree - in most cases - is designed as a four year program of study, provided the student is full-time and follows their chosen program of study as prescribed by the college or university, and also provided the individual does not require prerequisite or developmental course work. The minimum credit load for a full-time student is no less than 12 credits per semester. However, to complete the degree within the four years, a credit load of approximately 15 to 18 credits is recommended. For individuals who work or who have other responsibilities that would prohibit them from attending full-time, completion of the degree may take twice as long. Still, some of this time can be cut down by attending summer sessions and/or interim sessions. In addition, the bachelors and associate degrees are referred to as undergraduate degrees with the Masters and Doctorate degrees referred to as graduate degrees.

Dogs eat grass so that they will throw up. This is because they already feel sick to their stomach. They eat the grass because they know that throwing up will make them feel better.

What is wrong with your dog if he has pus coming out of his eyes?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dogs should not have pus in their eyes. If it is white, yellow or light colored like pus, and especially if sticky, it can be a sign of an eye infection and may need veterinary medical care. Dogs can easily get small seeds or other foreign bodies in their eyes that can cause infections. This can often happen if they ride in cars with their heads out the window in the wind, or if they frequently run through fields of tall weeds or grass, but there are many common ways for an eye infection to get started. Be sure to wash your hands well with soap and warm water if you have touched the pus. You can spread the infection easily to the dog's other eye, your eyes, or someone else's eyes if you do not wash your hands very well.

Does neutering a dog make a difference?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well the main thing is that the dog/cat won't be able to reproduce. I've heard many things about neutering your pet. The one that interests me the most was that supposedly it will reduce the chance of your dog/cat running away. Dogs often run away because they are looking for a "bitch" (female dog) to mate with. Therefore neutering him will make him not want to find a mating partner. (To simplify it; the dog wouldn't be horny and wouldn't go look for a female dog to have sex with.)

How old is a 20 yr old dog in dog years?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

the dog would be 140 years old

It is a common belief that 1 human year is equal to 7 dog years. That is not very accurate, since dogs reach adulthood within the first couple of years. The formula used above is from a canine expert and is a bit more accurate. (as accurate as one can judge these things)

The formula is: 10.5 dog years per human year for the first 2 years, then 4 dog years per human year for each year after.

What is wrong if your puppy constantly licks her genital area and whimpers?

User Avatar

If this is a female and about 5 to 6 months old, she may be in her first heat. They may not understand this condition and it may stress them out. Heat may last for 10 to 14 days. Other pups take it in stride.

What if your dog has itchy bumps all over?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First and for most you should contact your vet. If you don't have the money, contact your local shelter they may offer discounted services. Also, check with your local pet store, they may have a low cost clinic that come once a month. I have found them very helpful (and cheap) in the past.

  1. Does your dog have fleas?
  2. Have they come in contact with a new animal?
  3. Any environmental changes?
  4. Food changes?
  • You can give your dog benadryl. (example: My vet recommended for me to give my 50lb dog 2 benadryls Twice a day. This was for ear infection and also for skin allergies)
  • Oatmeal bath to soothe the skin. Tea Tree oil or ointment is a soothing cover all as well.
  • If you can get a hold of Dermasoothe shampoo for dogs and cats. bathe your dog once a week with it.

Background: I've had animals my entire life. I used to work as a vet tech assistant. I currently have 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 horse. Both my dogs have mild skin and/or ear allergies. I have been there and paid the $300 for one visit to see a dog dermatologist (located in Tampa, FL)

Should you use Dawn to shampoo your dog?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dish soap will not harm a dog, but the pH of dogs' skin and fur usually necessitates special dog shampoo, so it's much better for your dog to get a dog shampoo with primarily natural ingredients.

If you do use dish soap on him/her dawn is the one to use

Can you give a dog Duramycin-10 mixed in their food?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Never self-medicate a pet, as it is far too easy to overdose the animal. If your dog needs treatment, take it to the vet who can give prescribed medicine that is safe and at the correct dosage.

Another Answer Although Duramycin is not labled for dogs, but I gave it to mine. All five of my dogs had a horrible cough and I gave them each a shot, three got better right away like the next day. Two got worse within two days so I gave them another shot. The first shot was sub cu and the second was intramuscular (poor babies limped for a week) and the got better within two days. However, it is never a good idea to give a dog medicine on your own.

How many years is a dog in heat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Most Bitches will reach puberty when they are between 6 and 7 months old. At this time the bitch's vulva will become enlarged, during this time varying amounts of blood stained fluid is passed. This period in time is usually referred to as "Come on heat" or to be "in season". Some Westie females will show signs of abdominal discomfort and can also become excitable more than usual. They may also loose they're appetite for a few days before heat commences. The Westie female will become attractive to the male dog usually from the first day of heat, but are not really interested until 7 to 10 days. At this stage The female Westie will become anxious to escape from your home to meet the male.
