This usually happens to an already house trained dog out of separation anxiety when you leave. Find a book on dog training that includes a section on separation anxiety for the best advice.

It could be that you are leaving them alone too long and they just can't hold it. The younger and older dogs may have this problem more often since they do not have full bladder control.

It might be to mark the territory, it may feel like it is in charge when you are gone and it wants to let everyone know that the house belongs to it.

It will not be to "punish" you for leaving, they don't do naughty things in revenge.

They may need a house training refresher course with diligent attention to their bladder habits for a period. This may be needed due to a new scary thing or sound or other change in their environment that is unsettling to them and their routine.

There may have been thunder, a car backfire, fireworks or other loud sounds that scared them while you were gone. It may not have been a problem for them if you had been home to reassure them, but on their own it was just too much to handle. There are special coats for them that really help with this. One brand is called Thunder Shirts.

It may be that they need a medical check up to be sure there is no injury, infection or other medical condition that is causing it.

Definitely take it to the vet. The cigarettes could kill the dog.

if your dog jumps on your counter and you don't want it to well do the obvious get mad at it but don't hurt it.

Puppy nipping is natural. There is absolutely no need to punish. Do not pinch the lips or hold the snout closed; and please do not hit your puppy.

Inappropriate nipping or biting in puppies usually happens when a pup is taken from his litter mates too soon - this often happens with puppy mill puppies - or with puppies who did not have litter mates.

Dogs learn bite inhibition from their brothers and sisters. When a puppy bites his litter mate too hard, the offended puppy yelps and walks off.

According to author Jean Donaldson : "..puppies are thought to have such sharp, needle-like teeth is so that it will hurt when they bite other puppies. Puppies need feedback in the form of play interruptions for overly hard biting, but their jaws are too weak to cause pain with pressure alone. Hence the sharp teeth.."

So when your puppy nips you, do not hit, spank, squeeze his/her lips, etc.. just let out a high pitched "yikes!" or "ouch!" Then redirect your puppy to a more desireable activity such as playing with a squeaky toy or chewing on a kong. Redirecting is very important so that biting/nipping does not become a habit. And if the puppy isn't redirected to an alternate behavior, then she might stop nipping then start again.

Some people might have trouble with the high pitched yelp. Especially those with deeper voices. These folks will have to work harder to sound like an offended puppy. Also, if you want to be a little bit harsher, right after "yelping" you can walk off or simply stop playing with your puppy - the same thing his littermates might do. You can wait a few minutes then resume calm play or calm petting. If you stay gone for too long, the puppy will forget why you left and now you have a lonely puppy who did not learn anything.

• I've done this many times and it has worked when other ideas didn't. It works best for puppies that you find "in the act". You gently but firmly grab them by the scruf of their neck and give them a little side to side shake while growling in a low voice. I read this somewhere how puppies instantly know what they did was wrong because that is the way their mother reacted to something they did that was wrong. Remember their mother never spanked them, yelled at them, or rubbed their nose in anything.
• You should NOT rub your dog's nose in it's pee. It won't understand what you're doing (they surely could care less if they have to smell their own urine), especially if you didn't catch them in the act. If you don't catch them while they're going, there isn't much you can do about it. You simply have to work on prevention. Take your dog outside/to the area you want them to go to the bathroom after they wake up, after they eat, and after they play. This way they will have enough chances to go and they won't NEED to go to the bathroom on the carpet. If you DO catch them as they're going on the carpet, scold them, then relocate them to the area that you want them to go to the bathroom in as soon as possible. Be consistent, your dog will soon learn to follow a routine and accidents should happen less often (or never). You will probably need to keep doing this with a puppy or newly trained dog for a while (taking them out periodically). Don't expect them to tell you when they need to go outside to go to the bathroom, puppies won't/can't do this until about 4 or 5 months of age and training. *side note* make sure you clean up where they have gone on the carpet thoroughly. If they smell their urine somewhere they will be likely to go there again. Every pet store sells great products for cleaning up pet stains.

When a dog humps your leg, it is usually due to over-excitement and bad manners. It is unlikely that the dog is showing dominance over you. This humping behaviour is nothing to do with sex.

You must stop your dog from doing this to you or anyone else as you are the one your dog should listen to, and he or she must KNOW that. Go to an obedience class, take lots of walks (at least one walk daily for 20-30 minutes) where the dog is under control (that is the reason for taking the obedience classes first). When you dog starts to hump your leg, just say firmly NO and push him quickly off, no wishy washy pushes either, just quick and firm.

Check around your house. You will probably find a surprise.

What are the causes and cures of stool eating? A. Coprophagy (pronounced k� - pr�f� - je) comes from the Greek copro which means feces and phagy which means eat. And that is what it is � eating feces. A habit of dogs we all find disgusting, but as we say, dogs will be dogs. Some dogs especially like feces from herbivores like rabbits, deer, and horses. Others love to raid the cat's litter box. Still others only eat dog feces if it is frozen. Why do dogs eat feces? A lot of theories have been suggested as to why dogs eat feces. Are they missing something in their diet? Generally not. Dogs who eat their feces usually do not have a dietary deficiency. Some medical problems, however, can contribute to coprophagy including severe disorders of the pancreas (pancreatic insufficiency) or intestine, severe malnutrition from massive parasitic infestations, or starvation. These cases are rare. Some dogs, especially those in kennel situations, may eat feces because they are anxious or stressed. One researcher suggests that dogs who have been punished by their owners for defecating inappropriately start to think any defecation is wrong, so they try to eliminate the evidence. Another theory is that coprophagy is a trait passed down through the ages. Dogs' cousins, the wolves and coyotes, may often eat feces if food is in short supply. Feces from herbivores (animals that eat plants for food) contain many of the B vitamins. Some researchers suggest that wolves (and some dogs) may eat feces to replenish their vitamin supply. In some instances, coprophagy may be a behavior learned from watching other animals. It may also become a habit in the course of play and puppies having to try out the taste of everything. There is a stage of life in which coprophagy is common and expected. Can you think of what it is? Bitches and queens normally eat the feces of their offspring. This is presumed to occur in an attempt to hide the presence of the litter from predators. Finally, some dogs may eat feces just because it tastes good (to them). How do we prevent coprophagia from occurring? The best way to prevent the problem is to keep yards and kennels free of feces. Some owners find it successful to use something to make the feces taste horrible. Products such as For-bid (for cats or dogs) and Drs. Foster and Smith Dis-Taste (for dogs) are added to the food of the animal whose feces are being eaten (it could be the food of the dog with coprophagy if he eats his own stool; or the food of the cat, if the dog with coprophagy eats the cat's feces). The product is digested by the animal, and results in giving the feces a very bad taste. Some people try putting Tabasco sauce or cayenne pepper (chili powder) on the feces (not the food!). Unfortunately, some dogs have acquired quite a taste for Tabasco. These methods work best if the behavior has just started. Once coprophagy has become a habit, it is very difficult to break. Dogs should be on a leash when walking, so you have control over the dog in case a luscious pile of feces is found along the way. Sometimes, the only way to prevent coprophagy is to fit the dog with a wire muzzle. The dog will be able to sniff, pant, and do most things dogs do, but the dog will not be able to eat with the muzzle on. DO NOT LEAVE A MUZZLED DOG UNATTENDED. Adding toys and other diversions to the environment may be helpful. We need to find something that is more fun for the dog than eating feces. A dog may find a Kong toy laced with peanut butter a better alternative. Also give the dog lots of exercise to help it ultimately relax. In situations in which the behavior may be linked to stress, the cause of stress should be eliminated or at least reduced. In some instances of extreme anxiety, or if the behavior becomes obsessive-compulsive, medication may be necessary to try to break the cycle. One researcher recommends checking the dog's diet to make sure he is getting enough B vitamins and is not getting an excess of carbohydrates. Some dogs will improve if they are fed more often, so you may want to increase the number of meals (but keep the total daily intake about the same). There have been anecdotal reports that adding Prozyme to the diet may aid in eliminating this problem. For dogs attracted to litter boxes, you may need to be quite creative. Using covered litter boxes and placing the opening towards a wall may help. Some people put the litter box up high. Others put the litter box in a closet and secure the closet door so that the opening is big enough for the cat but will not allow the dog to enter. Keep in mind that if we make the litter box too difficult to reach, the cat may not go to it either. Above all, do not punish the dog for eating feces. This may reinforce the behavior. General work on obedience is sometimes helpful. If the dog knows what is expected of him and looks to you for cues, he may be less anxious and less likely to start or continue the behavior. What are the health risks of coprophagy? Many parasites can be transmitted through eating stool. Generally, herbivores have parasites specific to them; these parasites will not cause disease in carnivores. But dogs eating the feces of other dogs or cats can infect themselves repeatedly with parasites such as giardia, coccidia, and if the feces are around for 2-3 weeks or more, roundworms and whipworms. Such dogs should have regular fecal examinations and dewormings with the appropriate medications depending on the parasites found. Summary We are not sure why dogs eat their own feces or the feces of other animals. We do know that if a dog starts this behavior, the sooner we implement prevention measures, the better the chance of success.

Protection I believe. They have used dogs for some time now. My grandfather used a dog in WWII to protect himself from Japanese assassins who would kill soldiers while they slept. Dogs having more sensitive hearing would know that an enemy was about before anyone else would realize.

In my opinion Canines have been in the military for a very long time, I have heard other trainers talk about military canines back in Roman times, the uses have changed over the years, but the canine's nose is an invaluable tool.

Don't like it when your dog barks at other animals or people? What to solve your problem? Here's how: Say a firm "NO!" to your dog and close its snout gently with your hands. Say "No bark." and release your grip from the snout. Repeat process til affective. It worked on my dog, it should work on your dog!

Typically, a dog whistle is within the range of 16000Hz to 22000 Hz. Some dog whistles have adjustable sliders for active control of the frequency produced.

I once had a toy poodle and when we left the house we would put him in his dog cage. if we were going to be out long we left a potty pad, a toy and food and water but when u come home be sure to let him out again.but if you don't like the idea of a cage what u might want to do is leave a potty pad at the front door and put his/her food up high never leave it out all day let the dog eat and drink and take him/her out 20min later don't wait too long! You can find potty pads at pretty much any pet store or Walmart or Target.

Tap them on the muzzle and point at them and firmly say "Stop Barking!!" or "Hush". This should work. If they bark again, tap them on the rear and say the same. If they continue to bark, make them stay in a room by themselves until they stop. From that point they should stop.

When they hump you, it means that they are dominating you. They want to let you know that they are in charge. They are disrespecting you. But if is having sex with another dog, and humps, then that means she/he is sexually exited. If your dog humps you again, don't let her/him. If you do....then it will get used to being in charge, and he/she will stop listening to you and your demands.

dogs and other animals/humans growl by making their uvula viberate. or in some cases, the tongue will viberate and hit the top of the mouth while air passes by the tongue, creating the destinct growl-like sound.

Dogs may sit on their puppies to assert their dominance over them. This would be done if a mother dog is disciplining her puppies as well. If a dog sits on a person, it may be cute, but they are trying to assert dominance over that person.

I would invest in a bark collar. These collars emit a smell, noise, or shock that startles the animal. These do not hurt the animal in any way, but they are annoying. When a dog barks, they are immediately emitted so the dog will learn soon the barking is bad.

If your dog is a terrier, you likely won't be able to squelch this behavior completely - it is what they were bred to do after all. Your best bet is to not leave him out there by himself. If your dog is bored they will figure things out to do to amuse themselves, and they rarely choose things their humans are happy with. Another alternative is to provide him with a space where it's okay to dig. Make him a sandbox. Any time you see him digging where he isn't supposed to, make an "UGH" sound loud enough to stop him and attract his attention. Tell him what a good boy he is (for giving you the attention and for stopping digging) and then lead him over to his digging pit. Your throat should not bleed when you throw up unless of course you throw up A LOT. If you have bloody vomit, you should see a doctor as this could be very serious. If on the other hand you are throwing up so often as to irritate the lining of your throat then you should see a doctor about that as well. I wish you luck.
