The inspiration for Dracula comes from Prince Vlad III of Wallachia, a fifteenth century ruler in eastern Europe. He was also known as Vlad Dracula and Vlad the Impaler. Several different stories exist as to how he died. He may have been killed by Turks, by his own men, either accidentally or deliberately, or accidentally during a hunt. He died either in December 1476 or January 1477.
He was not in the book. Vlad Tepes was a prince in Romania in the 1400s. Bram Stoker adopted the prince into a different adaptation to create a remorse tale about a vampire who was a count in Translyvania Romania. He wasn't in the book, he just contributed to the tale that Bram Stoker created.

Yes, Although he was better known as Vlad III the impaler. Bram Stoker (the author who initially wrote Dracula) simply stole Vlad's last name although he didn't mention what Vlad was really known for. Which was brutally impaling his victims while he fought in wars with the ottoman turks.

MORE INFO:
The term Dracula traces its origins to Romanian language.
Drăculea is the original 'nickname' of Vlad Ţepeş ('Vlad ZZepesh', where 'ZZ' sounds exactly like in 'piZZa'), a Romanian ruler that reigned in Transilvania (Eng. Transylvania) in the years 1448, 1455-1462, 1476. Several centuries later, Bram Stoker was born, fell in love with the character and decided to dedicate him an evergreen fictional book with the principal character reshaped as Dracula. Fantasy by history. That is.
More: Vlad Ţepeş's father (nicknamed Dracul) was a respected member of The Order of the Dragon with the duty to protect the South Eastern European gate in front of invading Turks. He encouraged his son by nicknaming him 'Drăculea' (Ro. 'son of Dracul').
His language: old Romanian (as seen in the centenary national monasteries).Is_it_Dracula_or_Draculea

Having been loaded on to a ship (the Demeter) bound for England, Count Dracula, hidden in a box containing his homeland earth, lived on the blood of the sailors on board until all were dead. The ship then pitched up, wrecked, in the harbour of Whitby in the county of Yorkshire in England, whereupon Dracula jumped from the wreck on to the quay in the shape of a large dog and escaped into the night.
Count Dracula was born in Sighisoara in Romania (You cannot find this in the book, but in the novel the Count is the same person as Vlad III, the real Dracula, and he was born in Sighisoara). Now he has got a castle in the Carpathians and three houses in and around London. Carfax Abbey for example.

As an undead he can't give children. Only summon ghouls by draining them half-way of their blood and injecting them some of his curse in the progress. Only injecting and taking minor blood he can get minions. These are mostly mistresses, and does his bidding. Why can't Dracula see himself in a picture?
Vampires are thought to be unholy creatures, and silver is thought in some way to be a holy metal (hence, fatal to werewolves, for example). Silver therefore does not cooperate with vampires. So a mirror which has a reflective coating of silver does not reflect a vampire, and a photograph which depends upon the light sensitive chemical silver iodide will not form the image of a vampire. However, this doesn't apply to all pictures. There would be no apparent impediment to painting a portrait of Dracula.
Why did Bela Lugosi only play Dracula once?
once
Sorry, at least twice. Once in Dracula, once in Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein. And, of course, he played the role on Broadway stage even before the original Dracula film.
He was killed... search Vlad the impaler and you'll see what happened to him
Where in the book does Dracula bite Mina?
If you mean DVD chapter, I only have it on tape. The novel, I don't believe, mentions any drinking from the chest, nor are the two in love, though he does begin the vampiric process of feeding her and from her. It's unclear what chapter he begins this; as with Lucy, the symptoms are mentioned first. In fact, I don't believe there's an actual scene in the book where you see it happen; like most vampiric activity, it's only mentioned after the fact.
It depends on whether or not you believe in vampires. If you believe they're real, then he could be very scary. If you realize that they are fictional characters that don't really exist, then he's not so scary.
Dracula was male, he was certainly not a boy or girl, but whether he was a man is subject to your interpretation of what a vampire is.
What happened at the synod of whitby?
One of the things that was decided at the Synod of Whitby was the date for Easter.
What is another form that the vampire Dracula could take?
His Mom.
Dracula was a knight in The Order of the Dragon, a Christian order that was dedicated to keeping the Turks from over-running Europe. (see link) His Father was also of the same order and was known as Dracu (the dragon) Dracula means son of the dragon.
After one battle Dracula returned home to find that his beloved had committed suicide. Apparently the Turks had gotten news to her (before his return) that he had died in battle and she couldn't live without him. At this very un-opportune moment the priest chose to announce that she, as a suicide, couldn't be buried in a Christian grave-yard and that her soul was condemned to hell - at which Dracula cursed God and drank blood. Shortly afterwards Dracula was known as a vampire.
From this is it easy to see why Dracula is much conflicted over religion, is unable to look at a crucifix. This, by the way, was a trait unique to Dracula and is not universal to all vampires. So if you are confronted by a vampire don't rely on a crucifix to save you. That only works on Dracula and he's already destroyed.
