Note: regarding the presupposition of the questioner:Assuming you are talking about creatures thought to be long extinct then there remains to be verifiable scientific proof although there are many claims from a wide variety of sources that such do indeed exist still on this planet. A number of different species are among the sightings.
The 'mkole mkembe' from central west Africa is reported to chase away both Elephants and Hippos which it evidently sees as rivals for eating the vegetation it mostly feeds on. If this is correct then it is unlikely it would be amenable to taming by humans, although it is not apparently carnivorous. Scientific verification remains to occur. What is interesting to note is that one expedition in Cameroon in 2001 was the first white people ever to visit that area. So there do remain unexplored and unknown areas. How such creatures would react to humans were such 'close encounters' to occur, remains unknown. Evidence in relation to most other wild creatures would seem to indicate that the creatures would either flee or attack if aware of human presence rather than just 'sitting there' waiting to be photographed. This is also complicted by the likelhood that they are nocturnal feeders, at least according to some reports.
Until mainstream science, which has decided that such things simply cannot exist on the planet today (just like the Coelacanth Fish and the Wollemi Pine) becomes interested enough to investigate it properly, the question really remains un ed. The difficulty is that the great majority of the recent sightings are in remote and inaccessible locations, sometimes with political instability such as the Congo, which makes research both difficult and costly, if not practically impossible. In my own words, I can say that there is at least one plantet in alot of solor systems. In every Galaxy, there are about 70 trillion stars. each one is a solar system. In the entire Outer space, We cannot even begin to think how many galaxies there are in the universe. How many planets does that make? I would think there has to be at least a cell somwhere in that. Regaurding harsh enviornments? Things can evolve to cope with the enviornment, and there are probaly planets out there like earth, that could support creatures like on our planet.
