Draw what you know. The people and places around you are your best place to start. There is humor in very nearly everything if you just look at it.

Close your eyes, empty your thoughts, and draw the first thing that comes to mind.

One-point perspective has only one vanishing point.

Children are unique and different. One cannot really put an age as to when a child should begin coloring in between lines. Some kids can start as early as 2 years and some around 6-7 years.

The four elements of perspective drawing are the horizon line, the vanishing point, the distance point, the orthogonals, and the transversals. Put together these elements help 2-D renderings appear 3-D.

I'm assuming that your using pencil on canvas is in preparation to paint on that canvas, not to execute a pencil drawing on canvas. Assuming this, here is something to consider. Given that pencil could just dirty up the paint you lay on top of it, why not just lay in your sketch/underdrawing with some thinned down paint, using a (filbert) brush?

There are many different types of styles which people use called gothic font. These do not have special names though they can be Italian, bold, or underlined.

Yes eating pencils is bad for you. Do you eat them? ;-) Modern pencils are made of wood and carbon rod, and as such are not harmful they are made keeping in mind that a lot of people chew on the end of their pencils while they are using them. The old fashioned lead pencils on the other hand were harmful if they were eaten but they are not normally available any more.

Lead is a misnomer when talking about pencils. What you're actually writing/drawing with is graphite. Lead was neverused in the making of pencils.

The puzzle is this.

Most folks will feel the need to constrain their lines to the imaginary boundaries

that define the "box" although no such rule was stated.

By drawing far "outside the box," the lines are easily executed.

Use geometric shapes to do a rough shape... Frogs are basically a kite-shape, with long, thin triangles for legs (add other triangles to simulate joints ! Once you have the basic shape drawn, you can 'fill out' the straight lines to make it look more realistic.

In my studio I have:

- a flat, white, horizontal, melamine surface I use for watercolor.

- a light table I use for tracings used in animation and lay-out.

- a flat, white, tilt-able, melamine surface I use for finished pencil, graphite, Prisma-color pencils, oil pastels, etc.

- a portable, table designed for mechanical drawing.

- a standard drafting table.

- several easels (three floor, two desk top and one portable) for oils, acrylics and other canvas grounded medium.

- a cork board mount in my spray booth for air brush work.

- and an old work table with rough-work paper on a big roll mounted on one end.

I can pull the paper over the entire surface, when I'm teaching students, entertaining my nieces & nephews, or doing the preliminary consultation & design with a client or other artists.

Cabinet drawing is when you camp out in you cabinet for a week. While you're doing this activity you will live off of ramen noodles. You're main focus in this will be teaching penguins how to fly and throwing bumble bees in jail for being able to fly.

I did this last month and it was delightful. I taught 14 penguins how to fly and threw 17 bumble bees in jail.
