Why dont male mallard ducks quack like females do?
Female ducks make a more distinct quack, whereas males will all make more of a raspy quack. This holds true for most all breeds of ducks.
I am told if they are too hot or nervous. I feel like my 6 week old Pekin duck pants too much??!! It seems he is always panting in the air conditioning, when it's hot, no matter what the temperature...and at times when he isn't/shouldn't be nervous. any help would be appreciated! Do all swan eggs hatch together?
Sometimes they lay their eggs one after another. example: If a swan was going to lay 3 eggs, here are the times: 10:30am: one egg 10:35: 2nd egg 10:43: 3rd egg. Sometimes there could be a difference in hours, and sometimes day. It depends, you can't exactly choose a specific answer, it's different for every swan. Hope that helped!
What part of a mallard duck is green?
It's the male which has the green head. Female birds are less colourful than their male counterparts.
Is it true that ugly ducklings turn out to be beautiful swans?
I think perhaps you need to re-read the story...
The 'duckling' was actually a swan cygnet that got mixed up with a bunch of ducklings.
Turkeys and ducks are not closely related. But if you're thinking of large birds you might eat, you might be thinking of a goose.
Well, the bird may have had a dud. If not, did you touch it in any way? If you touch an egg and your scent gets on it (like 99.9% it does) your bird thinks that it is not hers and she leaves it.
Do female ducks lay more than one egg a day?
Nope. Mine don't i guess they are not like their relatives ''chickens''.
How often do baby ducks have to eat and drink?
We incubate chickens so I don't imagine ducks would be that much different, but they don't need food or water for the first 24 hours or so after hatching. Before they hatch they ingest the yolk sac which gives them all the nutrients they need for that first day or two. After that just put some feed down and they'll find it themselves :)
Why is a duck bulled platapous so hard to identify?
Duck billed platypus - Jeez, learn to spell.
It is impossible to think it anything else. There is no creature like a Duck billed platypus.

Where do mother ducks take her babies when it rains?
I've had up to eight Rouens and Pekins at one time but now (because of predators) have only two. I raised these from chicks/ducklings.
My experience is that they actually LIKE the rain. I do provide "duckhouse" shelter for them however. We live in Florida, so rain is frequent half the year, and the climate is warm.
What is warmer a goose or duck down jacket?
If you are talking about the warmth of a duvet it really doesn't matter which feather you use but depends on the tog rating of the one you have. The higher the tog the warmer the duvet. Most feather duvets come with either feather & down, or just down, the F&D are about 65% feather and 35% down. with these you get the 65% of feathers that may contain the stalks and the 35% down may contain the immature nestling feathers in them. With the down duvets you get 85% down and 15% nestling feathers. (please note: these percentages will be different for each manufacturer).
Down is warmer than feathers, duck down is superior to goose, and the Eider duck has the best down of all. This is why the comforter (US) is called an "eiderdown" in the UK. The name duvet comes from the French word for down. Another name is "dyne" or Doona (pronounced dewner) which comes from Scandinavian languages. It can also be called a continental quilt or blanket.
How old is a drake duck have to be to fertilize eggs?
Male ducks usually become sexually active after the curly feathers on their tail come through known as "sex feathers". Search this up on Google images if you want to know what I mean. Most species have sex feathers, and only appear on the male.

Do ducks work together toget food?
Not particuarly, certainly not like the herbivorous grazing mammals do. They will eat grass, but they will also eat bugs as well. Ducks love water, hence it is not termed "grazing" at all if they are eating pond weeds and such.
How old do ducks have to be before giving them away?
Usually they are given away when they are fully weaned from their mother and eating food on their own. Six weeks is very early--8 is better.
