Probably not, at least not directly...

Potentiometers can be used to vary the voltage in a circuit, but they typically do not have a large power rating. Most DC motors, even small ones, pull enough power to overheat a potentiometer.

Of course due to slip the rotor will always spin slightly slower.

Harmonics in three phase why not in single phase?

Harmonics are the result of the current waveform being distorted by a non-linear load, such as a computer power supply or a motor control drive (VFD). In a commercial setting (which is usually 3-phase), harmonics cause unwanted current to flow which does no useful work, yet must be accounted for when sizing conductors, transformers, etc. Harmonics are certainly not limited to 3-phase systems, however. Any non-linear load, even single-phase, causes harmonics. Your computer, television, and microwave oven probably create harmonics. In a residential setting though, there are not enough cumulative harmonic currents to worry about. Unless you have 50 computers at your house...

In house wiring, the chances of the wiring becoming overheated and possibly starting a fire could be the result of something using more current than what the wire is capable of handling. Fuses and circuit breakers are an excellent idea and you should never (nope...never) run a household circuit without one.

If you don't know what size of circuit breaker (or fuse) you need, you can check with your local electrical parts supplier and get the info. Or chances are very good that you can also find that information on the internet. Just check more than one site though because the accuracy may not be completely dependable.

You can use a FOR loop to loop 50 times, add the reading to a variable and then divide by 50 after the loop completes to determine the average. Make sure that you use a variable type large enough to keep the total. Keep in mind that unless you put a delay in the loop the 50 readings will be taken very fast and will probably vary little. You need to consider what a reasonable time to measure to determine what a good average would be, and then add a delay to give you the right period to take the average over. For example, if you want to take the average over 5 minutes (300 seconds), you would need to add a delay(6000) 6 seconds) to stretch it over the measurement time. Keep in mind that your main program loop won't start until the setup process is complete, so in this example the setup process will take five minutes.

No. Your telephone wires are acting as an antenna. There may be a grounding problem or crossed wires either in your house or in the box that supplies your house. You should have a network disconnect near where the telephone wire enters your house. Unplug it. This will disconnect you from the phone network and dial tone and hence your phones won't have any power. When you pick up a handset it should be dead. If it isn't you may have a local problem. If it is dead, that doesn't prove anything since you don't have power. The next thing to try is disconnect extensions and see if that has any affect. Again, the likelihood is slim that this will isolate the problem, but it is easy to do and worth a few minutes. You can call the phone company and as long as the problem isn't in your house wiring they should fix the problem for free.

There are still three phase delta 240 volt systems connected to the grid. Theyconsist of two smaller KVA transformers for two phase coils and a larger KVA transformer to complete the third phase. This larger transformer's secondary is center tapped to supply the split 120 volts to ground (neutral). To use a 240 volt wye system the voltage to ground would be 240 / 1.73 = 139 volts which is too high for North American standards. They are slowly being phased out by 120/208 systems. This allows for a three phase distribution and 208 / 1.73 = 120 volts to ground.

On a three phase system you have incorporated into it a potential of three single phase systems. A-B, B-C, C-A. Any two legs of a three phase system can be used as a single phase load. On a three phase system, be it a motor or a service, if one of the legs drops out for what ever reason, the remaining two legs are known as single phase. This is how the terminology became single phasing. As a side note a motor will run in a single phase condition, it just will not start. In motor control, a single phase condition is prevented by the use of overload heaters on all three voltage legs.

You will need a battery charger capable of providing up to75 amps at 12 volts DC.

This is called a converter, not an inverter. An inverter takes 12 v and transforms it usually to 120v AC or 220v Ac.

Keep in mind that your 1000 watt amp will not draw 100 amps only briefly at times if at all unless you are at maximum volume. You probably could get by with a 50 amp charger and a big capacitor to supply the boost for a few seconds.
