Queen Elizabeth put an end to Protestant vs. Catholic fighting for authority of the church. It is known as the "Elizabethian Settlement". The Anglican Church allowed people to be both protestant AND catholic. This is still true today.

The Book of Common Prayer was her favorite book. Elizabeth even embroidered a book for her godmother, Catherine Parr.

Mary, Queen of Scots, was executed on February 8, 1587 for her part in an attempted assassination attempt against Elizabeth I. In response to an earlier plot against the queen, the Duke of Norfolk was also executed in 1572.

The queen's husband is usually known as her consort. His title varies, depending on what title he brought to the marriage or what title was subsequently bestowed upon him. The current consort was born a prince and has since been titled as the Duke of Edinburgh.

Why an ermine?

The ermine was prized for its tail, which was pure white with a black tip. According to legend, the ermine would rather die than soil its pure white coat so it came to stand for purity. And as wearing ermine was restricted to royalty and high nobility, it also came to be seen as a status symbol.
