Emergency Operations Plan

The word emergency refers to a serious or unexpected situation.

You operate an AED by turning it on and following the audible instructions given from it.

The Armpit-Forearm Drag is a technique usually used by emergency first responders to move a person who is unable to move based on injuries they have sustained. You would position yourself behind the patient, reach under their arms, through the armpit, grab their forearms and then drag them. You would be walking backwards while you drag the patient.

This can be by hand carry, stretcher, wheel chair, gurney and ambulance depending on the extent of the injuries.

It creates a "cushion of air" which insulates you from the ground. This prevents heat loss due to conduction.

A first aid kit must be in everybusiness to give immediate medical emergencies. It is a good idea, to have a CPR certified employee if a hospital is located more than 10 miles away from your business and always have a mustering point for employees in case of fire or any other emergency that may occur.

For mass csualties, all uninjured help to the best of their ability. Treat in order of those with best chance of recovery first This is hard to do, because your heart says the opposite ,but this is a time and battle-tested system.

Most qualified person on scene must do Triage. This is a system of treatment for mass casualties.

1. Minor scrapes and bruises, antiseptic if you have it and band-aid

2. Walking wounded,i.e. splint a broken arm, ace bandage to a sprain

3. Open wounds. stop the bleeding, use compress or direct pressure

4. Compound[bone sticking out]fractures. clean as well as possible, immobilize limb. cover with cleanest cloth you can find.

5 Shock. head down , feet up, keep patient warm, try to get ambulatory patient to sit and talk to them.

6. Burn victims.rinse with cool water. cover burnt area lightly with clean cloth. These people will be in alot of pain, but if no responders on scene, that's all you can do.

7.Try to resusitate anyone you can,Cover the rest if possible.

8. Anyone not injured try to help first responders by doing exactly as asked, even if it's just to get out of the way or direct more responders to the scene.

Let's all hope and pray we never have to do this.Pray[or hope] for the best, but be prepared for the worst.
