How do you interpret Alden Nowlan's poem the loneliness of the long distance runner?

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner : Summary and Critical Analysis

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner is a short ironical modern poem by Alden Nowlan. This poem is simply an experience of the feelings a poet had while writing it. The feelings that the poet wants to mention are weaved within this given texture.

The poet was writing a love poem. His wife enters into his room and disturbs him. The writer has to stop writing to look at her. He might have been writing about his love towards his wife but when she herself appears before him, the poet does not like her appearance. It is a paradox in the life of an imaginative artist. In his meditative mood the wife disturbs him. Because of her lively appearance, he has to stop writing. The sequence of imagination and emotion gets lost at once. The loss of imagination and emotion causes the loss of poem itself. The result is that he begins to curse her.

It is an interesting paradox and an inevitable paradox- that the sensitive artist can imagine and write volumes on the extremity and mysteriousness of the love. But when the lover comes in his real life with her blood, flesh and bones he tends to turn his mind form his imagination. His lover's appearance shatters his imagination so he looks at her harshness of reality. The poet is cursing her because she suddenly comes into the room. The sequence of imagination and emotion gets lost, the loss of imagination and emotion caused the loss of the poem itself. The result is, the poet 'silently curses her.'

The speaker of this poem is a sensitive person. The persons who compose poems are usually sensitive. The stone-hearted man could never imagine and create such beautiful things. The speaker is strolling in the garden of imagination. His is searching for the beautiful flowers to weave a garland. At the peak of his imagination, his wife enters into his dreamland and he is disturbed.

The title of the poem is comparatively longer than the text. This makes the poem unique and interesting. The writer has applied new and modern technique. Abruptly the poet's wife comes in, and after contemplation suggested by the gap between the lines he curses her. A wife usually gets cursed while the husband is writing a love poem. This is the permanent irony in the life of lovers who write love poems.

Why do Greeks hate Americans?

From 1967-1974 Greece was run by military junta. This junta was right wing, and hell bent on suppressing any left (communist) tendencies in Greek society. For this reason, America supported the junta, and Nixon's Vice President Spiros Anaganostopolous (Spiro Agnew) praised the junta as "the best thing to happen to Greece since Pericles ruled in ancient Athens".

Fall of junta begun on nov 14th, 1973 when students of Polytechnic started a protest, which was small at first, but grew into anti-government protest very quickly, and then was "squashed" on nov 17th as junta sent tanks in to run the students over. Many kids were killed, and government fell only months later, making deaths even more meaningless and unnecessary.

Nov 17th was made into national holiday, which doubles as remembrance for the dead Polytechnic students, and a march against America for the role they played. What prevented the feeling from subsiding over time, is American foreign policy which consists of them doing similar things to different nations all over the world. Also, American presidents, have history of visiting Greece very close to nov 17, just aggravating the wound.

Clinton visited Greece on nov 20th, 1999, just months after bombing Serbia for no real reason at all, where Greece and Serbia have historically good relationship and intertwined history, so for this reason, Clinton was met with people shouting "murderer" at him. He apologized to Greeks for what America has done to them, but since they kept doing the same thing, it didn't help the matters much.

Obama visited Greece on nov 15th 2016, and this too was taken as direct provocation. He was met with violent protests, called a fascist and so on. Other reasons for dislike of Obama are his participation in creation of ISIS, which in turn created refugee crisis, which rest of Europe ignores, and Greeks are left to deal with enormous number of them, alone. Greeks can hardly feed them selves as it is, let alone feed all those refuges. Economic crisis ravaging Greece is also blamed on Obama.

I love my moms feet is this weird?

It really isn't strange, rust me many people have that same issue. It all really depends on your relationship with your mom. In my case when I told this to her, she took advantage of it and did evil things like; give me surprise footjobs under the table next to my dad, and making me cum so hard from her unbelievable footjob that I would completely pass out from the pleasure. I must warn you though that when you receive a footjob from your mom the pleasure is to much to physically bear. Like I said there were numerous times when my mom drained my cum to the point that my body loses continuousness. I'll be honest though when that happens the pleasure is on an inhumane level

What causes my shyness to kiss my boyfriend?

People make a big deal about kissing someone, but it's not scary(especially if it is your boyfriend. Once you kiss the first time, you won't be scared but don't do anything unless you want it to.

A quote by Einstein

A person starts to live when he can live outside himself. Once you kiss it adds to your relationship. To be truthful I didn't have my first kiss with my boyfriend until 6 month after we started dating. Just because someone is brave it doesn't mean they are not scared and nervous.

Kiss when you are ready to kiss. If he can't respect that, how do you know he will respect YOU? Think about it; add in the factor of how long you guys have been going out (how old you guys are) I have a friend who is 19 and she never kissed some one Well me and my boyfriend have been going out for 2 years (I am 13) ,of course we have kissed but its just... stiff, standing up and one of us says "Right, we are going to kiss?" not like flowing, natural. I want us to have a proper romantic kiss, you know? And he gets shy if I kiss his on the cheek or something in public. I love him a lot and we go round holding hands and stuff. I remember , I wanted to kiss him and my one of my friends dared him to kiss me and he stood up and said "This game is stupid! Im not playing!" It really hurt my feelings nut he didn't seem to notice.

Well, then you are asking the wrong question. The question you need to ask is why is he shy to kiss me? You're not the one with the problem, he is he has his reasons and if he wishes to share then he will maybe he is embaressd to kiss you? its not you, you are fine listen, I had a bf at 13 to, i felt like i loved him but my mom says that we were to young to love, I refused to listen to her but in the end she was right i am now 15 and have had 2 bf's

the first bf took 7 months to kiss me. the second kissed me 3 weeks into it it depends on if you are both comfortable with kissing in public. like you said, once in a youth club you are not going to marry him, but if it makes you feel better stand up straight, look him in the eye and ask him why.
