Why did Britain want to build an overseas empire?

An independent Sudan was seen as a potential threat to British dominance in Egypt. French expansion in Africa by 1896 also threatened to extend to the upper Nile, so the British decided to get there first. And Sudan offered a means to connect British-controlled lands to the north and southeast.

What is the empire state building's form?

The Empire State Building is composed of multiple shapes. The picture below should help.

It has a wider base but is essentially a set of rectangular prisms going up the building.

Toward the upper floors there are a pair of rectangular prisms with rounded corners. I suppose these might technically be octagonal prisms (8 sides), I'm not sure.

Then there is a set of levels that are square then a cylinder on top. The absolute tippy-top is a hemi-sphere (half sphere).

What is acid rain and what causes it?

Precipitation, rain, snow or sleet contains relatively high concentrations of acid forming chemicals as pollutants from coal smoke, chemical manufacturing and smelting that have been released into the atmosphere and combines with water vapour. This is harmful to the environment. There are a number of ways to prevent this harm. Switch fuel sources to natural gas, low sulphur coal, remove sulphur from coal before burning, install catalytic converters, maybe road traffic restrictions, reduce acidity in affected water systems with the addition of powdered limestone

How many sub floors are in the empire state building?

Officially the Empire State Building has 102 floors but unofficially has 104 floors. I know this for a fact because I have been on floors 103 and 104. I have even circled floor 103 - on the outside.

104. Floor 104 is the dome. There is a ladder on 102 to 103 and another ladder from 103 to 104.

Floors 103 and 104 are not official floors since they are utility floors and are not available to the public.

Accordingly, the Empire State Building has 102 floors officially and 104 floors unofficially.

Floors 103 and 104 and "floors" 90- 101 inside the mooring mast are not regarded as floors according to officials of the building because they contain utilities. In fact, half the floors inside the mast don't even exist; the other half can best be described as "platforms" composed of steel gratings. I know this because I have seen them and stood on "floor" 97. The elevator operator told me, when I questioned him about the number of floors, that every 12 feet of height is considered a "floor" whether or not it exists.

Incidentally, when the mast was under consideration for docking air ships, what is now floor 103 was then floor 102. Since that proposal never materialized, 102 became 103, 101 became 102, etc.
