What aircraft is used by the air ambulance service?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Jet-wise, LeerJets are the most popular among air ambulances. Although the LeerJet has long stopped production and was replaced by the BeechJet, Leer's have a larger passenger door allowing enough room for the onboard gurneys to be removed without taking the patient off the cot. Beech and newer aircraft have all sacrificed that door opening to get enough room to allow more rooms for seating. For propeller aircraft, the most popular for medevac crews and maintenance staff both are the KingAirs. I don't know the specific model numbers off the top of my head - I work in the back of them, not the front.

What risks do the paramedics have?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Being a paramedic is a dangerous occupation. The following are risks that paramedics may encounter in their work:

  • A paramedic may make a call where the patient is in the final stage of AIDS. If the patient is bleeding and the paramedic isn't properly dressed in personal protective equipment or it fails, the paramedic could be exposed to AIDS.
  • A paramedic may be called to a mental health patient who is armed with a gun and threatening the paramedic. Police should be on scene in such an instance but there is still danger involved.
  • A paramedic may respond to a suicidal patient. There is a level of stress involved in dealing with a suicidal patient and there may be a threat made to the paramedic as well.
  • A paramedic could make a call to a wreck where the car is in a swampy area or submerged in dirty water. The paramedic may encounter ticks or snakes while getting to the patient. They may even be scraped by rusty metal or encounter some other hazard.
  • Paramedics are required to work during natural emergencies. They must go out during hurricanes and storms to get to patients who did not heed the warnings of emergency personnel to evacuate. This puts them in danger by being out on the road in that kind of weather and hazardous conditions.

Following an ambulance without its lights should be done like any other vehicle, a car length for every 10 mph. If the lights are on, 50 yards is a good distance to stay back. Emergency vehicles can and do make erratic lane changes and starts and stops.

Why do paramedic need to have a positive attitude?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A nurse does not NEED to be optimistic but if they are nice then it could make the patient's happier, and help them recover faster; it could also help the nurse coope with the bad situations they might face. I think a good nurse also needs to be empathetic and understand where the patient is coming from. I mean, would you want to be in a hospital bed and feeling sick and then have a mean nurse yell at you all the time? No way!

Yes. You are able to sign up to be frozen if you become ill and die and you will be unfrozen 50-100 years later when they find the cure for the disease that killed you.
