What are three things that humans do that can lead to the extinction of an animal species?

There are a LOT more than three here. If you need this for an assignment or whatever, pick the best three. # Habitat loss/destruction. If an animal's ecosystem (including the place where it lives, its relationships with predators and prey) breaks down and changes faster than it can adapt, it will die out. # Predation. If a new predator enters an ecosystem (usually a species introduced by humans) that the animal cannot defend itself against, it will be eaten out. # Hunting by humans. If an animal is intentionally sought and killed by humans as a pest, food animal or for novelty (ie elephants for tusks, tigers for pelts) and more are killed than the reproduction rate replaces the animal will become extinct. # Disease. If a new disease or mutation of an existing disease occurs that the animal has no immunity to, this can quickly sweep through and destroy a population. # Isolation. If the pockets of habitat where that animal can live are too small, the populations in any one place will be tiny. This makes them very fragile because they can easily be wiped out by disease, predators, a natural disaster etc. Also, isolated population pockets become inbred resulting in a far greater occurence of stillbirth and deformed young that do not survive. # Extreme conditions. An example would be a grazer's ecosystem being gripped by a drought. The grass will die and the animal will starve. These usually happen so fast that the population has no time to adapt to them. # Natural disasters. If a species' population is spread over a small area which is destroyed by a natural disaster, it has a fair chance of dying out.

Why are wooly mammoths not that dangerous?

They certainly aren't anymore, because they are extinct. When they did live, they probably only attacked animals that they thought were threats. That is similar to the African elephant, but they are still considered one of the most dangerous mammals on Earth.

How did the quagga look?

The quagga was a sub-species of the Plains Zebra. Unlike other zebras, with their full-body black and white stripes, the quagga was striped only on the front part of its body, with its hindquarters a solid, darker brown. The stripes on its head faded to a yellow-ish brown body and made for a creature with a very unique set of markings.

What is a quagga and how did scientist bring it back from extinction?

It was a subspecies of plains zebra. It's scientific name is Equus quagga quagga. Scientists did not technically bring it back from extinction. They are working on breeding it back, meaning breeding individual plains zebras that look like the Quagga. Numerous other attempts are being made to breed back endangered species that have very close relatives still alive, such as the attempts to breed back the Dire Wolf or Aurochs.

What do you think are the reasons for the extinction of languages?

The people who speak it may be exterminated by invaders (Aztec, Mayan) or the language gradually changes (Sanskrit,Latin-> many European/subcontinental languages). Latin is formally extinct (nobody speaks it as a native tongue) but because of its enormous influence in historical times it is still used in specialized areas, and some people can actually use it as a common language between individuals who do not know each other's language. So from some point of view it is not yet extinct.

What adaptations did the passenger pigeon possess?

The passenger pigeon existed in vast flocks, migrating from place to place in search of food, mainly nuts and seeds, fruits. The birds refused to nest unless there were large numbers of birds in the colonies, and this may have eventually doomed them as the numbers plumetted from hunting pressure. Young fledged birds were left on the breeding grounds, and formed their own dense flocks.

Why are saber-toothed tigers front teeth so big?

They have big teeth to pierce there victims necks,to stop them from breathing.
The Sabre toothed cats were not tigers at all, only distant relatives. The large knife like canines were used to disable large prey quickly, so they could be finished off easier. Tigers today use a different type of assault on their prey, attacking the neck region, where the canines can grip the windpipe and quickly strangle the prey or sever the spinal column.

Improved Answer:

Sabre toothed cats were a complete different species than today's wild cats. The large teeth were used to severe the jugular arteries, as they were much too fragile to break through the bone.

What do archaeopteryx eat?

It is likely to have been a generalist capable of feeding in both shrubs, open ground and even alongside the shores of the lagoon. It most likely hunted small prey, seizing it with its jaws if it was small enough or with its claws if it was larger.

What animals in the ocean are extinct?

There are very many extinct species of whales, porpoises, and dolphins. Whales actually descend from a prehistoric dog that lived in the Middle East. Many species of whale thrived and became extinct between the doglike whales millions of years ago and the ones we have today.

Here is a page that has different species of whales and includes a list of extinct whales about 3/4 of the way down.

Is there still dinosaurs living today?

Depends what you mean. Crocodiles have not evolved much from the ages of the dinosaur but their size has changed slightly. Turtles also share the fact that they were bigger back in the dinosaur times. Animals from the dinosaur ages can't still be alive because that mean that they would be about 65 million years old. So the answer is kind of, because although they are a lot like animals from back in the Jurassic and Triassic ages, they are not the same as those animals.

Are jackalopes extinct?

The Jack Rabbit and Hares are generally classed together in the genus Lepus. How many animals have been extinct in the last fifty years?

Every decade an average of one animal becomes naturally extinct.

Why may a species become extinct?

Here are some reasons that some species become extinct:

Thyllacine, the "marsupial wolf" was hunted into extinction, as was the passenger pigeon and probably the moa.

Competition for resources can drive species into extinction.

Disease and predators also take their toll.

Insecticides like DDT weaken bird egg shells so that fewer of them hatch.

Loss of habitat is yet another factor.

Should you bring the Quagga back from extinction?

firstly, let me say theyre not actually gonna be bringing the quagga back to life, because its dead, its extinct, theyre just going to be breeding zebras with simular features, to make an animal simular visually, to the quagga.

theyre basically just breeding zebras to make more zebras, which although they my not look much like zebras, they are.

but the answer is, no cause you cant but they can try, cause all theyll do is breed a load of zebras with eachother to make more, slightly different looking zebras.

Can an animal species make itself extinct?

Yes, sometimes they are doomed by the evolution to extinct. For example, the cheetah attack's success is very low and in the undefined future it will extinct.

What are some examples of extirpation?

Beavers and sea cows are examples of extirpation.

The Extinction of what group of animal is caused by the global climate?

Climate change has caused mass extinctions of species throughout geologic time, dating back millions of years. The earth goes through cyclic temp changes constantly, and species adapt, evolve, or simply die out. The current period of "climate change" has not been severe enough yet to cause any major fauna extinctions as of this time, and chances are good that it may not, as the warming claims may have been exaggerated.

What are the most famous extinct animals?

Well everyone knows about the dodo being extinct, and there is like the Tasmanian tiger too.
