How do you know a vampire when you see one?

they do not come out into the sunlight, they have pale skin, different eye colours and they always come out at night

Very nice but i have come up with more ideas which i have added to relevant questions.

You can tell that someone is a vampire if:

1. They have black eyes which would fill there whole eyeball.

2. They would be extremely pale as if they had no blood in them.

3. They would of course have fangs where their upper canine teeth should be.

4. They would fear the sunlight and wear mostly dark clothing that hides their skin even in the most absurd conditions (warning: they can build up a kind of immunity to sunlight!).

5. They would mostly be out and about in the night and rarely during the day.

6. They would most likely where sunglasses and/or a hat at almost all times even when unnecessary.

7. Their strength and speed would be most unnatural and definitely much more than that of a normal man or woman.

8. Their senses (e.g. sight, hearing, smell, etc.) would be very strong: they could hear things from far away, can see things most people can't, and can smell things you could not.

9. Their skin (if you ever felt it) would be ice cold.

10. They would not have anything to do with religion, especially the Christian religion.

11. If they touch silver they would begin to burst into flames.

12. They would not appear in reflections or pictures (not quite sure though).

I'm afraid that garlic might not do the trick but you might want to check to be sure.

Why do black cats have bad reputations?

In ancient history, especially in the Fertile Crescent, there were opposing beliefs about the black cat, and how you viewed the animal depended upon your culture and religion. Ancient Egyptians treasured the black cat and some even felt the cat possessed spiritual qualities. Egyptians often mummified their family pets, especially black cats. The Jews and the Babylonians, however, felt all cats were related to serpents, especially in their habit of curling up near warm places like hearths. All three cultures believe the cat had inherent spiritual qualities. Ancient Greeks, like the Egyptians, associated cats with godliness, and believed that Artemis often took the form of a cat.

Some contend that the strongest influence on the negative attitude toward the black cat stems from the Crusades first, and the Early American preoccupation with witchcraft. This may be in part true. Still tied to some type of spiritual origin, black cats were often thought to be the familiars of witches, a belief dating to the Middle Ages. To own or possess a black cat was to potentially suggest you were a witch or worshipper of the devil, and that the cat was your familiar. The color was important too, since black cats couldn't be seen well in the dark when you'd conduct your evil schemes. Edgar Allan Poe furthered suspicions regarding the animal by writing undoubtedly one of the most frightening short stories The Black Cat which maintains the connection between feline and the spirit world

Myths and legends are a symbolic representation of reality. They contain strong wisdom that humanity experiences. Myths also contain a certain context that might be compared to real life situations. Ancient myths contain Noah's Ark and Ulysses adventure, while new myths are books like Lord of the Rings. Therefore, myths and legends are important because they enlighten us about how to deal with life, and their effectiveness is proven by ancient myths but the new myths work just as well.

What is the difference between a human-vampire hybrid and a pure vampire?

A werewolf is the only thing that can kill a vampire. The sole existence of werewolves is based off of the need of a way to kill the unkillable, the undead -- vampires.

-----

A vampire is an undead body that is in constant need of finding additional life-force to sustain itself and is sensitive to sunlight.

A vampire is a dead body re-animated.
A werewolf is a living body turbo-charged.
Do the math.

Even though a vampire is undead a werewolf will easily overpower it and win even if it comes back i will do the same and the vampire will eventually get tired and surrender

Is it bad luck or good luck for a black cat to cross your path?

It depends upon where you come from. In various places around the world, a black cat (and all other cats) are considered good luck when they cross your path. However, if they sit down in the middle of crossing your path or if they bolt across in front of you, it's considered bad luck.

In America and Britain it is considered bad luck for a black cat to cross your path, however, if you stroke the cat's back four times take a step away from the cat, and spin three times, the bad luck is said to go away.

Of course, all this only applies if you're superstitious. If you're not then I guess you're only viewing this because superstition interests you. :)

Do mermaids kill people?

Only if the person who makes up the story makes them evil. Since they don't exist they can be anything the person who creates them wants them to be.

Like anything there are good mermaids and evil mermaids. In the story 'The Little Mermaid' the mermaid rescued a drowning prince, brought him safely to shore, and stayed vigilantly by until somebody found him. And then their are reports of mermaid (sirens) purposely luring sailing ships onto reefs so that they (the mermaids) may feed on the drowned sailors.

Now in all fairness the latter accounts here were originally attributed to the sirens who are not the same as mermaids but the two have become united and for reasons that we cannot legitimately say why.
