Is this a Hamstring Injury I feel pain in the middle of my hamstring and it goes down to my knee. Is this a hamstring injury or another injury Also what can I do to speed up the healing process?

Sounds like a hamstring injury. If so, the keys are getting the swelling down, immobilizing while itt heals, working range of motion during the healing process, and some physical therapy to rehab it. Ice-packs on the effected area -- 10 minutes on and 10 off, repeat for a couple of hours. Be careful not to freeze the skin -- wrap the pack in a towel if you have to. Aspirin or ibuprofin are good to ease the pain and control the swelling. DOn't start using it before it heals. Stay off it for a while. Get with a therapist and discuss range of motion excercises. The biggest mistake patients with this kind of injury run into is re-injuring it by using it hard before it's healed. See link below:

What are some items that should be put in a tornado emergency kit?

You should have at least two emergency kits. One for the car and one for the house. The one for the car will be smaller. Only pack the things you will need such as a first aid kit, flashlight, flares and such. The home kit will need to be bigger. It should include everything the kit for the car will plus extras like bottled water, blankets, matches canned food that will not spoil and a battery powered radio. It should be placed in your "safe" room where you will be in the event of a tornado. More importantly, you should have a plan for emergencys. All family members should know what to do and when to do it. Plan for tornados, fire or any other emergency you can think of. List from a Red Cross class: 3 days of water for each person in house (this is the most important) packaged (canned and bagged) food 3 days of medication (you will need to rotate these out every month to avoid expired medications). flashlight weather radio first aid kit pet food, leash, tags, etc. for pets clothes anything else you can't live without for 3 days (medical equip, etc)

How do you treat a sprained thumb?

== == First make sure it's only a sprain. If there is any doubt about torn ligaments or broken bones you need to be seen by a doctor. However, if you can move it around, there is no "crackling" with movement, and the only symptom is that it's sore, then do the following:

Use ice the first 24 hours after a sprain, then heat to the area after that.

(Reason: ice reduces swelling and any bruising when you apply it right away. It will help cut down on pain as well. Then using heat will help improve circulation to the area and promote the healing process.)

Immobilize/Rest your thumb with a splint for a couple of days..no longer.

(Reason: give the sprained muscles, ligaments, tendons time to rest.

However, do not wear the splint longer than a couple of days or you

risk having the muscles, etc, get very stiff.)

It's easy to make a splint out of Popsicle sticks and tape. You can also buy

splints at the drugstore.

Finally, as the injury begins to heal, gently flex and extend your thumb to loosen it up. As it becomes less sore, exercise it more so you don't get a stiff thumb joint.

* IMPORTANT*

See your doctor immediately if your thumb becomes white and cold, or turns very dark. These are symptoms of a problem with the circulation and that is an emergency.
With a thumb injury there are a couple things to do to treat it. Alternating heat and ice to reduce swelling. Nsaids (like ibuprofen) also to help with pain and swelling. Also taping the thumb in such a way as to mimic the tendons of the thumb. The taping with give added strength and support to the thumb and reduce further injury. Be sure to tape it in, what is called, gross anatomical position. Basically act like you're holding a soda can and tape it in that position, if that makes any sense.

Why would a cut that you got stitches removed from a week ago not heal after 2 weeks and smell bad?

A cut that smells bad is infected or necrotic. In either case, this calls for a visit to the doctor. If the wound wasn't effectively disinfected prior to suturing, anerobic bacteria (bacteria that don't need fresh air to live) can prosper. This will have to be cleaned out and, as this can be painful, best to do it where painkillers can be administered. While this doesn't need a 911 call, you also should treat this very promptly indeed. I would NOT wait two days myself -- in fact, I'd go right now. And I would have someone other than your original caregiver be the one to look at this.

How does caffeine prevent wound healing?

How does one treat a minor heat stroke?

In any heat stroke the body should be cooled immediately. The person should be moved inside, or at least into the shade. Clothing should be removed and cold water, cold cloths or even a cool bath should be used to cool down the patient. If the person appears confused, dizzy or appears to be drunk an ambulance should be called immediately. If the person is able to drink they should drink water. Sports drinks are OK but water is better.

Some people are more susceptible to heat stroke, the old, the sick, the young and people on medication are affected more easily. === === Good answer above -- I disagree on one small point. If the patient enters heat stroke with electrolytes depleted, you're not going to be able to rehydrate effectively until that balance is re-obtained. I like sports drinks for this, as well as orange juice (high in potassium) or even salty lemonade.
