This will depend upon a few factors. First, how much of the time is your cat indoors - 50%, 75%, strictly 100%? The more time your cat spends outside, the more time he/she has to pick up fleas and bring them in. Second, how bad is the flea infestation - are you seeing some flea dirt, actually seeing fleas on your cat or are you being bitten as well? The more fleas you see, the bigger the problem you have. Third, how much area do you have in your house, and how much soft material (carpets, beds, upholstered furniture, clothing, etc) do you have? Adult fleas are often only 10% of the total flea population - the rest are larvae and pupae that are in the bedding material of the infested animal (wherever the cat sleeps at, which is often all over the place). It takes 21 days for a flea larvae to become an adult flea, which is when most home flea remedies can kill the fleas.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont do any of that to a one week old kitten! First NEVER use a puppy product on a kitten! Next, DO NOT get them wet, kittens can get too cold very quickly. Just treat the mother with Revolution, Advantage, any monthy flea medication from your vet and the mother will pass enough to the kittens in her milk to help them get rid of the fleas. GO NOT use anything that you would purchase at a Wal*Mart or other store that is not your vet. The Hartz flea drops can kill your cat! Once the kittens are about 5 to 6 weeks, if they still have a few fleas, give them a bath and use IVORY soap and a flea comb, be sure to dry them VERY well after and keep them wrapped and warm until they are dry. Yes, I too would not recomend using any type of Flea treatment on the little baby kittens. I myself did bathe my kittens, but at 2 1/2 weeks old. I bathed them with Johnson's baby shampoo, and let the shampoo sit on them for around 5 mins. and it did kill alot of the fleas. Also, I had to make sure they where kept warm, b/c they can lose their body heat very, very easily!!!! Also, I did this in the summer months so I did have an advantage of the warm weather. This did reduce/kill most of the fleas, at least enough that they would not become aniemic and die form the fleas.
I've just started using Off Deep Woods and so far it's worked for me. I'm currently fighting a flea infestation and I was getting bit constantly until I started spraying myself with Off. As far as I know, it works against Cat Fleas. I'm not sure about other types.
