Average cost for laying solid wooden floor?

Location & quality are certainly minimum variables

  • In most of the southern and Southwest part of the country expect to pay $1.50-$2.50 per square foot and about $1.00 more I'm Major cities & the north.
  • If the floor is prefinished that is about what you will pay.
  • IF the floor is sand & finish on sight expect to pay at least another $1 per square foot.
  • If the flooring is glued down expect to pay about $70 per pail of adhesive & make sure it is what the flooring maker recommends. If the floor fails & they didn't use the vendors recommended adhesive you are out of luck, no questions asked, game over.
  • If the flooring is Nailed or stapled, again make sure the size, length, and proper gun pressure is used or they will turn down your claim.
  • Different makers have various sub floor requirements so don't assume it is OK to slap it down over whatever is there.
  • Moisture is a tremendous problem with wood floors. In short wood likes water and absorbs it aggressively. Concrete floors suck a lot of moisture from the earth & emit a lot of water to the top side for evaporation. when wood is put over the wet sub floor adhesives fail, wood swells, pops, creaks & generally misbehaves.
  • Engineered wood on concrete floors, solid or engineered wood on suspended wood sub floors.

How do you install handrails in tile?

Hold your ADA handrail where you want it. Pencil mark your hole pattern. They make drill bits to drill tile. I find the massonary style bit to work best. Dip the bit in water every once in a while to keep it cool. Drill a 1/4 " hole at each mark, tap in a blue "moly" in your FOUR locations. (use the 4 hole pattern) and screw your rail to the wall. ADA height is 34" to the center of the pipe. GL

How many 13x13 inch tiles do you need to cover 32sq ft?

32 sq ft = 32*12*12 = 4608 sq inches.

So number of tiles required = 4608/(13*13) = 4608/169 = 27.27

So a minimum of 28 tiles would be required. But that assumes that all the off-cuts are utilised - NOT a reasonable assumption.

Why are roofers removing old asbestos roofs more at risk of developing lung cancer then people who install asbestos flooring?

Installing asbestos flooring involves less disturbance to the asbestos-containing product than does removal of asbestos felt roofing. Consequently the flooring installer probably has less exposure to airborne asbestos fiber than does the roofing remover, and therefore less risk of developing cancer.

However, if a similar comparison is made between the flooring remover and the roofing remover, the greater risk falls to the flooring remover.

Why water cannot removemarks made by rubber heels on a linoleum floor?

The answer to the question is basic chemistry, Rubber, Vinyl or almost any plastic is not water soluble, so water doesn't dissolve or break down the heel mark.

Try gently rubbing with either a bit of cooking oil and a soft cloth or WD-40 & it will be gone in a flash.
