You do not have to replace the PS hoses. Remove the radiator and install a new one.

According to the 2004 Ford Excursion Owner Guide :

That comes on to indicate ( 2 different things )

Either your emergency brake is on or the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IS LOW in

take the lower kick panel off under the steering wheel and on the right side look up by the heater box there is a bracket with 3 different relays mounted to it.

It is basically 5 bolts (10 mm) and a 3/4" breaker bar to relieve the belt tension.

Use breaker bar to remove the serpentine belt. at the end of the belt tensioner, there is a hole for the 3/4" to fit in. rotate clockwise.

Once belt is removed, remove two bolts in the 5 and 7 oclock position. The other three are on the back of alternator. Then disconnect wires from back of alternator.

Reverse process for installation.

It's that easy.

One easy and cheap to fix cause is a disconnected or broken vacuum hose.

The vacum hose comes out of a compressor on the passenger side of the vehicle. If it is leaking you will hear the compressor running when you turn on the ignition, don't start the vehicle... just turn the ignition to the on position. If the compressor motor is running and running. it is a sign that there is a leak. check that the hose is conected correctly at both front wheels. remove the front tires to do this. Not engaging and air leaking can also be a sign that either one or both of your hubs are bad. they are actuated by air pressure turning the hubs into 4wd. I you asbsolutely must have 4wd In an emergency you can get out of the vehicle and manualy turn the hubs to 4wd. Easch front wheel has a turnable hub that can be turned to Auto or Locked. You want to ALWAYS keep it on auto unless your auto isn't working in an emergency and you need to lock them. this is actually a GREAT feature from ford that does allow you and emergency option in a pinch. most 4wd trucks and suvs don't have controllable hubs and if they fail you are out of luck.On mine, one of the hubs was bad so I replaced both of them with warn hubs. My 2004 Excursion has the 6.0 L diesel - it will get 19 to 20 mpg highway if you have the dealer update all of the control modules / systems. that's increased from 17mpg before updating firmware on the modules. City varies, but is probably around 14 depending how you drive. If you have either of the gas engines, I'd suggest buying Exxon - it would be cheaper! (I love my diesel Excursion... At 8300 pounds it gets better mileage than a GM minivan!)

In Macon, MO the quote for the replacement of the Fuel Pump was $600. The reasoning was that the pump itself cost $400+ and since it is an extended cab truck they have to go underneath to remove the gas tank to get to the fuel pump.
