One possibility could be, it was the Airbag sensor's 'threshold' was set to low from the manufacture.
Another possibility, the sensor's 'threshold' had deteriorated over time due to environmental and/or driving conditions.
To provide more information: I have a 2003 Focus ZX5 with 128K on it that has been stuttering at low RPMs, especially when accelerating, the last several days since getting the battery and the thermostat casing replaced. Lots of check engine light recently, at first for a "random misfire" after which my mechanic moved the coils around, then because the thermostat door was stuck open. Funny how the light was on when the car was otherwise driving ok, and off now that it's sputtering down the road! Ideas?

Usually the appropriate warning light on the dash will come on if the alternator is not producing current. If you don't trust the warning light, take a volt/ohm meter and (making sure it is set on the DC reading scale) connect it across the output terminals of the alternator to determine if any current is being produced.
there may be a problem with the gauge, sensor or thermostat try replacing the thermostat first
I think you mean the AQUASTAT, that controls the fan. The THERMOSTAT is in the upper water hose inlet and controls only the temperature of the water. The aquastat operates the fan, only.
Use a small screw driver or somthing that you can use to pry of the lense. Once you have done that you can change the light.
It depends on what year, you're talking about. It varies from year to year.
On some of these SUVs it is behind the glove box.
But it`s not a SUV
In a Focus 2006, AND in the fiesta/fusion from 2002 AND the C-Max, Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy, the ventilation air filter is mounted next to the trottle pedal. All you need to do is to remove the trottle pedal (just 3 bolts). Right next to the pedal there`s the filter cover. It`s secured with three to four Torq screws (depending which model), size 20 (just a small one). Remove the screws and the cover and here`s your ventilation air filter
I removed 2 cds from my 2005. Remove the cover that surrounds the radio. The lighter and htr./ac. will come with it. Just be carefull and use a small screwdriver around the edges to remove it. Romove the 4 bolts that hold radio in place. There are 4 torqs screws that hold the faceplate in place. When that came off mine the 2 cds were sitting in a cavity on top of CD player they should fall out.
