Are funeral open on holidays?

Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States. As such, federal offices are closed on Veterans Day.

Funeral homes, not being federal offices, are free to either close or remain open as the owners desire; the United States does not have any "mandatory holidays" on which all businesses must close.

How do people feel dead?

Deceased persons at first still feel warm. This is because the most recent blood flowing through the body is still warm through action initiated by the brain (thermal regulation). Some families even swear they can feel a pulse, but this usually is from the living person feeling their own pulse when touching the deceased person's hand. Within hours, the body begins to cool (and the mistaken belief that a pulse was felt is no longer a belief). As well, a specific type of rigidity begins-- but, after some additional hours, that rigidity goes away. Bodies are taken to a morgue or holding area where temperatures are kept very cold to slow decomposition. Therefore, when the body is touched, it feels very cold. The skin looses its elasticity so it feels unmovable. Since there is no respiration, heart beat, or warmth, the body can feel hard or stiff in comparison to what we are accustomed to with a living person. The chest of a deceased person can almost feel like a "box" when a mourner "hugs" the body in the casket. At the funeral home, the body may be embalmed (but this is not required in all US States or in all countries). The body is then washed, dressed, and the hair washed and styled. Make-up is applied to the face, (even males) mostly to hide the paleness of death. Some families ask that perfume be applied to deceased women; or cologne to deceased men.

Is it true that in the state of Michigan the person who paid the funeral expenses is entitled to the insurance benefit regardless of who the beneficiary is?

Unlikely. It doesn't make sense. If you pay $10k in funeral expenses and the life insurance is 10 million - what kind of a deal is that? It would certainly be possible that if the insurance is payable to the estate of the deseased that the person who paid the funeral expenses could get the $$$ from there.

Why are there no nails in Jewish caskets?

Jewish law only allows NATURAL materials, like plain wood. This is because, according to Jewish teachings, the body is to return to the earth so any items that may impede the process of decomposition are not allowed.

How much are mausoleums?

You should contact a cemetery in your area and see what is their price range. It seems that the costs in a cemetery owned mausoleum vary substantially with regard to location (interior or exterior crypt; lower crypts more costly than crypts at higher level). If cost is no object you might have an architect design one just for you. I've seen one prominent family's mausoleum in a local cemetery and it must have cost tens of thousands of dollars- lots of marble, columns, etc.!

Why do we pull off to the side of the road when we meet a funeral procession?

The history of the practice of pulling off the road during a funeral procession, was at one time, a law.

Now only regarded as a "practice" for those who wish to pull off the road.

Back in the early days when automobiles were a new form of transportation and roads weren't wide enough to accommodate the width of a car and a horse drawn hearse meeting one another, automobiles were required to pull off the road and be shut off.

This allowed for the procession to proceed as a whole and the horses not to become spooked by the car engine.

It was never intended to be regarded as a "respect for the dead" issue.

Should grandchildren be sent a thank you note for sending flowers for their grandmothers funeral?

If the children sent them and you know they did, be polite and proper as you would do to anyone who sent them- recognizing their support would be a good thing. Even if their mother send the flowers in the name of the grandchildren, children love to get cards and feel important. Send the grandchildren a card appropriate for their age. Absolutely not. It's their responsibilty and obligation to perform these duties in support of the family and the people that are responsible for them even being here, taking up other people's breathing air. The people that don't care if they ever existed or not..........Best thing to do, if they really cared about their people, is to look in on them, see how they feel, ask them if they need anything. Support, in short. But, different people do tend to be different.................

Can Jehovah's witnesses limit who goes to there funerals?

I suppose anyone can limit who goes to a funeral.

Let's say I have a small funeral at my house. I could certainly limit who I invite. I might invite your neighbor, and not invite you. That's my right. It has nothing to do with being a Jehovah's Witness. It has to do with preference, or perhaps other reasons.

Let's say you always treated the deceased in a disrespectful way; You would probably not be invited. Thems the breaks.

Can you go and view a body any time at a funeral directors?

Visiting hours are usually posted in the obituary section of the Newspapers, in jerdey City and environs the agreed-upon trade practice is 2-5 and 7-9 in PM hours. it has been argued the song ( Dey Doo Ron Ron) makes some sort of morbid comic reference to this ( Picked me up at seven and we went to nine) was in the original- one is advised the song begins- Met him on a Monday and my HEART STOOD STILL. one wonders about these songs and their medium-grey humor.

How much money can you withdraw and put in a funeral fund when your elder is in a nursing home?

You should be Power of Attorney for this elderly person. This gives you the right to pay bills at the nursing home, any care for the elderly person, etc. If you have the power to do so, then take into consideration the request of the elderly person in their Will what type of funeral they wish. Funerals can cost up to $18 - $20,000 easily if one allows a Funeral Director to talk them into a very expensive casket with all the extras. A moderate funeral would be suitable. Some people prefer cremation and a Memorial Service is set up. It would be wise to seek advice from the banking institution where the accounts are and ask their opinion. You could put say $12,000 into an interest bearing account.

Are angel statues allowed at Jehovah Funerals?

No such statues are allowed, because they are viewed as idols and Jehovah's Witnesses feels strongly about avoiding idols. (1 Corinthians 10:14) Then too, mostly churches include items like that in their funerals and we do well to distinguish ourselves from other religions.
