German shepherds are UNLIKE any other dog... literally... you will NEVER find a dog the same as a shepherd.... Well, a thing to be careful about with German shepherds is that they ARE NOT for beginning dog owners... They are not hyper usually, nor outwitting of their owners, and they are very sweet and non - aggressive, also eager to please... but they are very smart dogs. So be careful... Example: We had some friends who wanted a German shepherd more than anything... but they were not experienced. The wife had not ever had a dog. And when we tried to persuade them to get an easier dog, they wouldn't cooperate. So we simply found them a reliable breeder and soon they had a healthy little male puppy... but soon, they figured out the puppy needed more space. They mistook his barking as aggression. They had no time to be with him and they left him in a kennel all day. His urge to be with them and protect them led him to cutting his nose badly while trying to escape from his kennel...
And they had to get rid of the poor dog... Luckily, my grandparent's last shepherd had past away and even though they never liked male dogs and they didn't need another dog, they found the puppy, (Now named Klause and 1 year old) to be irresistible. So they bought him.
But German shepherds are amazingly smart, and they will make you laugh or cry each day... Not the dog as a lab who will wag his tail and lick you, sometimes annoying trying to be with you, but instead they are gentle and careful not to overdo it... they a playful and need exercises. They will bark a few times (not repeatedly, usually) and will recognize your car and not bark when YOU come in... They will greet you with tail wags and love you and protect you (Google some stories of German shepherds fighting off armed robbers) and are wonderful....
But their is one thing that is gut wrenching, horrible, a nightmare about German shepherds... something you can't avoid with any amount of training EVER.
When they pass, it's like losing a family member... It's HORRIBlLE.

You should always have your dogs OFA certified against hip dysplasia before breeding them and elbow dysplasia too. If they do not pass the OFA requirements, then they should not be bred.
