How can you tell if comet goldfish is a male or female?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A male has more of a V shaped tail. A female has more of a U or a rounded V and

First if your comets are not at least 2 years of age, they won't breed.

Males vent openings are concave or sunken in while the females vent opening is convex or poking out. The males have firmer dorsal fins and are more streamline than the females. The females are heavier in the abdomen area than the males.

Breeding tubers won't appear on the males gillcovers or fins until spawn. That is to say you don't have two females or two males.

They will breed once they are old enough and if they are male and female

What is the weight of a 30 gallon fish tank full of water?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If the tank is actually filled to the brim (tanks never are) the water would weigh 8.35lbs x 30gallons which is 250.5 lbs. To obtain an accurate total weight you would have to add in the weight of the sand/gravel substrate, and the rocks (decore) and the weight of the empty tank. Then you would subtract the weight of the top 1 inch or so that is always left empty.

Do betta fish need light at night?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No, bettas, like all living animals, need the regular cycle of night and day. Bettas also usually relax/sleep during the night because they feel like they're in a cave and more secure. Constant light can be stressful for the fish. Even in the day, do NOT keep them in direct sunlight as this will cause the temperature to flunctuate (very stressful) or overheat, as well as promote algae growth.

No, they do not need light at night, they enjoy light but, do not keep them too close to the sun as, this may cause discomfort. They are quite easy to care for, as long as they are provided a clean environment and are fed once a day. They can live for years and years! It is usually 3-4 in a bowl and in a tank 7-8. Have fun with your betta!

Will shubunkin's breed with goldfish?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Shubunkin is just a fancy name given to a specifically coloured Goldfish. Breeding one with a Golden coloured goldfish will result in about 33% that look like a Shubunkin and 33% that look like a Golden coloured goldfish and 33% that look like a mixture of the two. The above results would only be accurate if the breeder fish are properly line bred and their lineage is guaranteed. Otherwise you could get anything from coloured goldfish to uncoloured goldfish and a mixture of any kind of goldfish including Comets, Fantails and Veiltails.

Are goldfish saltwater fish?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It will kill them/it. If you are refering to salt water at the same rate of specific gravity as ocean water wich is about 1.022, Then you will definitely kill your goldfish, It will take between 1/2 and 5 hours. If your goldfish are sick or icky you can dip them in saltwater for about 15 seconds or so and that will actually help them,(possibly) this does not always help but it will not kill.

Koi are a type of carp and can get very large. 135 gallons is not enough room for Koi to be kept for a long period of time. They should be kept outdoors in over 500 gallons, constituting a pond. Only fry can be kept in an indoor aquarium but then they will have trouble adapting to an outdoor environment.

Will paradise fish kill mollies?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Fish of the family Poecilidae, yes that includes Mollies, don't have the mouths to cause serious damage to each other, or other fish. They can peck at each other, but the worst that could happen is a guppy with a small rip in the tail. They can, however, eat fry. Fish of the family Poecilidae will spend more time showing off and "pushing" each other with their tails than actually fighting.
