Is a 2.7 for the first year in college a good GPA?
It's average. Mostly they say a 2.0 is average, but in reality because of grade inflation a 3.0 is more like average in college. You're not failing, but it'd be better if you could pull your average up above 3.0.

What is the minimum GPA to get accepted into occidental college?
I don't know the minimum GPA to get accepted into occidental college. But you definitely need to get decent grades. A good GPA and a decent SAT scores are a must. After you accomplish this, start thinking about ways you can separate yourself from the competition. Extracurricular activities are very important. Lastly, make sure you want to go to occidental college. I know a lot of students that thought they wanted to go to their dream school, but when they got in and went to that school, they were really disappointed. You can get information about the academic requirements here:

and reviews of occidental college by actual students here: http://www.unigo.com/occidental_college/reviews

I have a 1340 (1600) on my SAT also, 3.0 unweighted GPA in the full IB programme, good essays, and am the "king of extracurricular activities." I am also applying to Emory, but I am applying to Oxford college, on the Emory campus. Oxford college is everything that Emory is and is still a part of Emory, but your classes are separate from the Emory college students for your freshman and sophmore years. After these two years all Oxford students are then tranfered to the main Emory college. I applying for Oxford because it is slightly easier to get into than Emory itself (because of my rather low GPA). You have a pretty good chance of getting into Emory, but if you were to apply to Oxford (or another affiliated college of Emory) your chances would be greatly increased and you will still get an Emory education and Degree.

How do you get a GPA over 4.0?
# Write down your assignments in a notebook or planner when the teacher assigns them. That way, you won't forget and get a late grade or zero. This can also be used for quiz, test, and project due dates. # Do your daily homework. It makes up a large part of your grade. Check over your work to make sure you did it right. This especially applies to math. # Study for tests and quizzes. They are important. Find a study stragety that best heps you. # Don't freak out during tests. Being nervous won't help you. # Do extra credit whenever it is offered, even if you don't need it now. You never know when you may need it. # Get a good night's sleep and eat breakfast in the morning. These are two proven ways that help students achieve better. # If you aren't understanding something, don't be afraid to ask your teacher or another student. # Take notes over your teacher's lectures. If they emphasize something, it is likely that you will see it on a test or quiz. Make sure to mark what they emphasized. # Always bring your needed supplies. Having your textbook will help you if your teacher lectures out of it. # Try to be ready for pop quizzes. They can throw off your grade a bit if you don't do so well.

What are the minimum SAT and GPA requirements for a decent American college?
Depends on your definition of 'decent'. A school ranked among the top 50 would generally require a score of around 2000, especially if you are looking for financial aid. In my opinion, schools look at GPA first and foremost to decide whether to admit you and SAT scores tip the scales and help them decide how much aid to give you. A good GPA and a decent SAT score gets you in. A good GPA would probably be anything above 3.5
AnswerBefore you start searching, I would encourage you to decide what broad area(s) you are interested in getting employment when you graduate from college. Is it technical or liberal arts? Do you want to work in an industrial, government, or academic environment? Once you decide this, go see someone working in this area and ask them what college they would recommend. Once you identify colleges you are interested in, contact the college and request a description of their requirements. Of course, if you are still in high school, you should have a counselor who can help you with all of this information.

What GPA do you need to get into Christopher Newport university?
they accept anything from a 3.0 and higher HOWEVER your chances are very slim if you do not have at least a 3.4 . When i went for a tour there, they told me about 25% of students have below a 3.4, 50% have from a 3.5-3.7 and the last 25% have higher than a 3.7. So you can get in if you have below a 3.5. cause they told me they had students with 3.0 gpas but they had either lots of extracurricular activities or were there for sports oh and visit this http://www4.studentsreview.com/gettingin.php3?SH=CNU&ST=VA
