What lives longer quail or phesants?
Well female quails live only 18 months- 2 years. Males however live until they are five, which i think is a very long time for a small bird. i am guessing that phesants live longer as they are bigger, but my grandma had one and he only lived a couple of months so i dont really know. depends on the environment and survival.

Do any photographs exist of that quail Robert that belonged to Margaret Stanger?
Yes, they do. I have one that was sent to me by Mike O'Connor, owner of Bird Watcher's General Store in Orleans, MA. Please note that the quail Robert adopted Tommy & Mildred Kienzle as her foster parents. Margaret Stanger was a neighbor of the Kienzles and was a "quail sitter" for them. I wish I knew where the Kienzle's lived as that does not seem to have been recorded anywhere. Cheers, Jim HullyMundelein, ILEmail: xenospiza@gmail.com
p.s. I visited Orleans this past summer (2014) to find out more about Robert. I talked to many people but the highlight was spending the day with Cathy Baldwin. She illustrated the original book and still lives in Orleans. We visited the Kienzle's house (#8 Crystal Lake Drive - looks just the same as the drawing in the book), the Orleans Historical Society, Mike's store, and of course Margaret Stanger's home. The most touching part of the day was finding Robert's grave. She is still being watched over by those two stone quails....

What is the origin of the Japanese Taiwan Quail?
Both Japanese and Korean are predominantly Altaic languages (Tungusic), but both show underlying strata from other language families. Around 2000 BC, the Huaxia people of the Huang He valley in China conquered and absorbed other peoples found there and nearby, including the Dongyi people of Shandong (related to the Hmong). Many of the Dongyi fled across the sea to Korea and mixed with the Tungusics they found there; these gave rise to the modern Korean people. This would explain why Korean is not fully Altaic. Not long after, mixed Dongyi and Tungusics migrated to Kyushu and southern Honshu, where they existed in various tribes; these were the Yayoi people of Japan. Around the time of Christ, the Yayoi absorbed the Kumasi (Austronesians from Taiwan) and the Jomon people (indigenous Austroasiatics) to form the nucleus of the modern Japanese people. Later they absorbed the remaining Ainu, who not only were archaic Caucasians (possibly related to Finns and Yukaghirs), but probably had proto-Amerind blood as well (they intermarried extensively with the nearby Gilyaks, who have proven language affinities with the Almosans of North America). So the Japanese, while being largely Tungusic from Manchuria, also have many other strands in their makeup, like most peoples. Oh wait, the bird? Gee. I dunno. Eggs? Like, on my face? Well, at least you know the origin of the Japanese themselves, now you can ask one of them about the quail.
